“Welcome to Morocco! I spent four days in this beautiful country and am already itching to go back! I definitely recommend the 3-day guided bus tour. We saw where The Gladiator was filmed, walked through the gorges, shopped the souks, and so much more! We stayed one night in a hotel, and the other night in the desert where we rode camels and ATVs (my favorite part)! The locals are so welcoming, and the
food was absolutely amazing! Morocco has my heart.” - Mia Irrizarry (@mia.irrizarry), ASA Sorrento Spring 2026

If you’re heading to Morocco during your study abroad trip, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

▪ Dress with cultural awareness, especially outside major tourist zones. Morocco is diverse and modern in many ways, but keep clothing respectful.
▪ Keep small cash on hand. Many markets, taxis, and smaller cafés still prefer cash, and having small bills avoids awkward situations when paying.
▪ Expect sensory overload at first. Sounds, traffic, smells, calls to prayer, crowded medinas, and constant movement can feel intense, but usually become part of the magic once you adjust.
▪ Learn a few basic phrases in French or Arabic. Even simple greetings go a long way and tend to create warmer interactions with locals.
▪ Be prepared to bargain in markets, but keep it friendly. Negotiation is often part of the shopping culture, but avoid treating it like a competition.
▪ Bottled or filtered water is the best choice over tap water.
▪ Download offline maps before exploring medinas. GPS can get confusing in older neighborhoods with tiny winding streets.
▪ Respect photography boundaries. Some people, especially artisans or market vendors, may not want photos taken without permission. Always ask first.
▪ Stay aware of phone and bag security in crowded areas. Morocco is generally manageable for travelers, but busy tourist areas are still busy tourist areas.
▪ Embrace slower timing and flexibility.
▪ Bring layers. Desert areas can be surprisingly cold at night, even if the daytime heat feels intense.

Today is my 22nd Birthday! 🎂 I’m sorry I haven’t been posting on this account as much as I use to. I’m going to start posting again but not as frequently. I’m very thankful for my friends and family for making me into the person I am today!
