Dear volleyball,

This past season was the best year of volleyball I’ve ever had and I would give anything to go back to summer pride and do it all over again. I remember being a freshman thinking I have 4 more years to play with my best friends and now it’s all over. Some of my favorite memories are from volleyball and I am so thankful for that. I will always cherish this sport and the bestfriends I made through it forever. I want to shoutout Coach S, Coach Rose, and Coach Ashley for supporting me and being amazing coaches I love you guys. I also want to thank my parents for always coming to my games and driving hours for club tournaments I don’t know what I would do without you. Lastly to all my teammates, you guys are the reason why I love volleyball so much. I can’t believe it’s all over I would do anything to have another season 🤍🥲

On August 11, 2026, I was asked, “Why do you play volleyball at the college level?” I wrote:

“I play volleyball at the college level because of my love for the sport. I love being a part of a team, family, & the overall atmosphere. I also am playing for myself this season to prove that the last 2 years of pain, hurt, and doubt won’t overcome me. The ultimate core reason I will hold onto when things get tough is this: Playing for myself and never letting myself take it for granted again. Before my injury, I didn’t realize how lucky & blessed I was to be a part of a team and have a healthy body to perform & play volleyball. Now that it was taken away for 2 years, I know what a privilege it is to practice, play in games, condition, and everything that comes with being on a team. I also play for Jesus because He is the reason I am able to have one last season when I thought I was never going to be able to.”

Just 15 days after writing that, I tore it again.

Today, I underwent my third ACL reconstruction after tearing it just three weeks after finally making my way back onto the court.

The hardest part is knowing that this time, there isn’t another comeback. Because of the way my knee is anatomically built, I am at a much higher risk of tearing my ACL again, and I’ve been told playing volleyball is no longer safe for me, even for fun.

In a way, fighting for two years just to get those three weeks of volleyball with my team made every single day of the fight worth it.
I got to put my jersey back on. I got to practice, compete, travel, laugh with my teammates, and feel like an athlete again. I got to be part of a team again.

For two years, all I wanted was one more chance to play the game I love. I got that chance. It just ended far sooner than I ever thought it would.
