Our Sparkplug!

We traveled to Wilmington College in Ohio last weekend for my niece’s Senior Weekend.

We thought we were going to watch our girl light up the field one more time.

She’s a sparkplug.

Explosive. Fearless. A game changer.

The kind of player you notice when she steps onto the field.

But last Wednesday, everything changed.

She suffered a significant injury to her left knee, including her ACL, and suddenly Senior Weekend looked very different than any of us had imagined.

And this isn’t her first time here.

Her junior year of high school, it was the other knee.

So instead of watching our girl light up the field...
we held her in the light.

We surrounded her with love.

We celebrated the athlete she is, but even more importantly, the young woman she’s become.

Our family knows a little something about knees and the way an injury can change your plans in an instant.

But this isn’t our story.

It’s hers.

She gets to decide what the next chapter looks like.

What I know is that resilience isn’t always the comeback highlight.

Sometimes resilience is sitting on the sideline when every part of you wants to be on that field.

It’s allowing yourself to be disappointed.

It’s accepting the love being poured into you.

And eventually, when you’re ready, it’s figuring out what comes next.

We came to Ohio expecting to cheer for what she would do on the field.

Instead, we found ourselves cheering even louder for who she is off of it.

Our sparkplug is still a sparkplug. ❤️⚽️

The field will just have to wait.

We couldn’t be prouder of you.

Big ❤️ to our entire fam! We cherished this time with all of you!

Some love stories don’t need words. You can see them in the way two people look at each other after a lifetime together.

This week, we are celebrating my parents turning 80.

Eighty years of living.
Eighty years of learning.
Eighty years of loving the people around them well.

My parents have been two of my greatest teachers. They have shown me what commitment looks like, how to stay curious about life, and how powerful kindness can be when practiced every day. Their love created the foundation our whole family stands on.

I am grateful for the years behind them and the many beautiful moments still ahead.

Happy 80th, Mom and Dad. Your love is one of the greatest gifts in my life.
