Want by @micahsmithwrites

NOT 👏🏻 ENOUGH 👏🏻 RECOGNITION 👏🏻

Y’all need and WANT to go grab this one like right now because it’s so good. The writing is fantastic, but I love when a book has me asking “wtf am I reading?”

There’s cosmic horror, subliminal messaging, and an FMC you’ll love but makes very questionable decisions.

Blurb:
Advertising is manipulation, and Holt Harding is good at it. At least, she thought she was. Her first time leading a marketing campaign has blown up spectacularly. Now she’ll do anything to redeem herself. And desperation calls to something older, darker, and hungrier: the Space.

This strange, living force can bend a person’s will with just a word. It’s the kind of power an advertiser like Holt would kill for—if it doesn’t kill her first.

October TBR… a bit ambitious for me

Shoutout to my guy @micahsmithwrites on his book “Want”! We talked about books everyday at kickboxing class but I just found out he’s an author at the @msbookfestival . Can’t wait to get into this one

Then we have the Possession of Alba Diaz, Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, The Calamities, and an absolute stunner copy of Dracula from the @foliosociety

As you can see I saved all my horror and thrillers for this month 😂. Looking forward to this list!

When it comes to horror, the best stories come from the absolute worst decisions. Whether it’s a book or a movie, we’ve all yelled at characters at one point. “Don’t go in there!” or “Why are you being so loud?!” or my personal favorite, “Why the hell did you think that was a good idea?”

But there’s a lot to learn from horror in that regard. Fictional characters make deadly mistakes, so hopefully we can learn from them and not get eaten by a giant, Lovecraftian god from another dimension (looking at you, Monumental).

Here are some books + candles that are available in the store & online now:

🪼 The Dorians by Nick Cutter: {CR for the Grim Reader’s Book Club} This one follows a group of desperate people who inject an experimental drug promising renewed youth, only to discover that their pursuit of immortality comes with horrifying consequences.
🕯️ TheSpore & Spine: Misty Fog, Damp Leaves, Spice

🌲 Hemlock Island by Kelley Armstrong: Laney rents out her island home, but when her latest guests report blood and occultish signs, she returns to investigate, only to find herself trapped with a supernatural threat.
🕯️ Ink & Incantations: Herbs, Spiced Bourbon, Foliage

🤯 Want by Micah Smith: After an advertising campaign goes wrong, a desperate marketer turns to a mysterious force that can control people with a single word… only to unleash something more dangerous than she ever imagined.
🕯️ Paranormal: Black Currant, Absinthe

🎧 Schrader’s Chord by Scott Leads: After inheriting mysterious records tied to his family’s dark legacy, Charlie & his friends play them despite ominous warnings, unleashing a gateway to the land of the dead.
🕯️ Something Wicked This Way Comes: Black Licorice, Cotton Candy, Butterscotch

🏕️ Monumental by Adam Nevill: Six kayakers trespass into a mysterious estuary to camp and explore, only to be trapped by the tide, hunted by a creepy, murderous cult that serve an ancient, pagan evil.
🕯️ Spellbound Woods: Cedar, Fir Needles, Sea Moss, Amber

Which bad decision are you making this weekend?

Stay spooky! {and be smart about it}

👻 Spooky Season Book Recs 👻

I had so much fun looking through all the books I’ve read and loved and figuring out which type of horror each book belongs to. Some fit in multiple categories but I tried my best😝

I’m really enjoying cosmic horror at the moment 🥰

What type of horror are you into? Any of these on your list?

Currently reading Want by Micah Smith

Sooo stoked to dive into this one!

Special thank you to @micahsmithwrites for sending me a copy of your book!

About the book:
Advertising is manipulation, and Holt Harding is good at it. At least, she thought she was. Her first time leading a marketing campaign has blown up spectacularly. Now she’ll do anything to redeem herself. And desperation calls to something older, darker, and hungrier: the Space.

This strange, living force can bend a person’s will with just a word. It’s the kind of power an advertiser like Holt would kill for—if it doesn’t kill her first.

❓ How was your weekend? Did you start or finish any books?
