Kiln-formed Glass Plates & Coasters with
@michael.endo at @pilchuckglassschool

September 5, 10 am - 4 pm

Join us for an introduction to kiln-forming! During this course you will learn the basics of kiln-formed glass (also call fusing) while designing and making your very own functional glass plate or duo of coasters. Students will learn about glass cutting, glass colors, the fundamentals of fusing, and the subtlety of slumping (shaping the glass through heat).

All materials and tools will be provided. Finished projects will be available for pick-up a few days after the course ends. Shipping may be arranged.

No previous experience is necessary.

*Participants age 14+ are welcome. Parents or guardians must sign up alongside participants under the age of 18.

Pilchuck you’ve done it again. This time focusing on Neon for the past 3 weeks, my heart literally lit up. Constant work, forest/meat parties, falling asleep under the stars, amazingly talented and dedicated artists, learning more and more about glass, deer and rabbits grazing, putting on a show, bending tube, pumping tube, demos after demos. It’s always hard to try to explain what happens here because the feelings run so deep. I’m extremely grateful for this place, the people and shared love of glass. Until next time…

Special thanks to @sarah_blood for designing a wonderful course with support from @kacielees and @yalewolf to make our dreams become a reality. Love you @pilchuckglassschool

Session 4: Mixed Metaphors (Jun 22-Jul 3, 2026)

For my first course teaching at Pilchuck, we foraged for sticks from the wilderness, wired our own battery powered mobile transformers and lit up the night with our glowing forms. All in 12 short days!

Overjoyed to see old friends and enthused to make so many more 🌲 No place like it on earth. Thank you, @pilchuckglassschool @michael.endo @rayafriday and the whole crew up there in the glass forest.

Look out for the 2027 summer session release date Jul 11!

A few preview shots of “Out of the Woods” an exhibition in Pilchuck’s Seattle Office and Studio. For this exhibition, I curated a selection of works from Pilchuck’s permanent collection that embody the experimentation and innovation that happens on campus. From a 1971 goblet by Dale Chihuly to a giant Sasquatch foot painted by Gretel Eisch, this exhibition has some fantastic pieces of Pilchuck history.

In addition to these pieces the exhibition includes recent work by current Pilchuck staff members.
