J Wade is someone I first heard on Vic Spencer’s Inspire Your Idols. Coming out of Chicago, he’s an MC with a unique style. I was thankful to get early access to this album from J Wade, Guess For Your Life, and been listening for a few weeks now to give a breakdown for everyone!
.
J Wade starts the album running. When the music starts so does his flow and it feels like he’s already mid stride. J Wades rap style took some getting used to but once it did things fell into place better. GYFL is a tricky first track, not just from adjusting to the flow, but it evolves into a pretty chaotic song that just kinda kept throwing me off at the start of the album. But by the time we hit Pin or Spike & Spotlight Larcenist my mind settles and the musical fog cleared. Across Guess For Your Life there’s a wide spread of sounds and styles with the production, which helped lead the way for a multitude of vibes and lyrical directions.
.
The Devourer & & OCV are both produced by jxsn and are two standout songs back to back. Those beats are stunning and J Wade hits flows on them that are peak. Contingency brings a super smooth beat that J Wade matches with well. A great blend of content on through Guess For Your Life. Carhartt Collection Infinite is dope and again driven by great production, this time from Backpack Beatz. There’s a lot some songs here that aren’t for me as much, I don’t find an urge to skip them or anything but don’t grab me quite the same as my favorites here.
.
I’m honored to have got an early insight to this album so I could talk about it with everyone when it dropped! This was a good album and one that hooked me in as a first major impression from J Wade. I suggest this for a listen today for sure and see if it’s for you!
