It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to touch something you designed yourself. But I can definitely say it feels pretty great 🥹 michaelmirza.com

Day 3 of Pampered Chef National Conference!
We learned so much in all of the trainings, visited the product showcase to see all the new fall/winter products, attended general session to learn about all the new and exciting things coming soon for hosts and guests in Pampered Chef parties, and went to a fun Summer Camp themed event held exclusively for Directors and above! So much fun!

In this episode, fellow artist and creative @michael_mirza talks about coming back into the creative space after putting it on the shelf for 20 years for the sake of practicality.

Though our lives might not look as artistic as we thought, we never stop being an artist and Michael is proof of that.

This was one of my favorite conversations that spoke right to my soul, listen wherever you listen to podcasts!

Two important announcements:

1. My favorite hardcore and metal albums of 2025 are on my Substack, linked in my bio. 🥰

2. This is the final post I’ll be making here on Fast Music Feed. More context in the video (which I just realized is mirrored 🤦🏻‍♂️). Thank you for following, sharing, and creating! Follow my personal account, @michael_mirza, if you’d like to stay in touch. 🙏

For more new release coverage, follow @what.it.takes.blog, @noechodotnet, and @sounds_of_the_void. I also got lots of inspiration from @felopunk, but his YouTube channel got shut down. 🤬

Shout out to some of my favorite Chicago bands: @greed_worm, @racetraitor, @homeinvasionchi, @fuerzabrutaoi, @stomachdoom, @stresspositions, @bugginhc, @snuffedchicago, @lostlegionchicago, @wretchedblessing, @coronarymusic, @sidiosquierehc, @birdlaw.noisecore, and @conservativemilitaryimageusa.

Hardcore forever. Take care of each other and be well, friends.

P.S. Let’s go @arsenal 😁

Failure is a necessary part of the creative process, and is even necessary in play. We need safety to make mistakes if we want to reap the benefits of trial-and-error.

Russell Weiss is a self-taught perfumer as well as teacher of perfumery to Chicago high school students. Learn more about @deepfieldaromatics through Russell’s full interview, linked in our bio.

How does your nose play? Some questions for you to ponder:

1. What’s a scent you find nostalgic?
2. What’s your favorite smell to encounter in the wild?
3. What are two (or more!) scents you’d like to blend together?

If you enjoyed these questions, you’ll probably love the new interview with @deepfieldaromatics on our YouTube channel, linked in our bio. 💁🏻‍♂️

Play requires room to fail, and creativity is fostered through trial and error. These insights from Russell Weiss, a self-taught perfumer and multimedia artist, offer direction toward the risks & rewards of the creative process. Russell is the owner of Deep Field, a Chicago-based perfume studio specializing in botanical-forward fragrances. In this interview, Michael and Russell discuss perfume-making, philosophy, and the power of playfulness in creating art and teaching others.

“Flow state” got referenced in multiple Define Play interviews, especially the ones with @wholeparent, @davidhardinfit, @whitelucymusic, and @timmbloem. It’s that powerful form of work or play when time disappears and you’re completely absorbed. Here are a few tips for cultivating that sometimes-elusive state of being and creating.

Recorded in August while camping and kayaking in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
