POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
My Mum brought up three of us single handed. She did three jobs a day and managed to get us off to school in between. She fed us and clothed us; hand knitting all the jumpers.
I never heard her complain. She read to me every day as a kid until I could read for myself. She encouraged me to pursue the career I wanted to be part of when everyone else told me to “get a proper job”. She was funny and danced every day.

When money was almost non existent she made toilet paper squares from old newspapers punching a hole on the top corner threading a piece of string and hanging them in the loo.
On money flush days she afforded “IZAL” Toilet paper; to be honest the daily papers were kinder to the skin.

She made one chicken last from Sunday through most of the week. Stale bread kept in a bowl and soaked in water was made into bread pudding to fill us up.
She made all the food for my brother and sisters wedding and somehow found the money to buy me a Vox Continental keyboard so that I could join a band at sixteen.

The list goes on and on just what my mother did for us.
She taught me to be a proper man how to respect others whatever their background or status in life.
Mostly she taught me to be grateful for what I have. Not what I think I should have.

So today I will think of all those things I need to be grateful for: A roof over my head and food on the table.
Or as Mum would have said; In her strong West Of Ireland accent: “Be grateful you have a table to put the food on”. “However bad you think life has been to you there are a million others that would change places.” That was my Mum and I loved her so much.

Oh God, I miss you so much Mum... We’ve all got a bit of a situation down here. But I know the world is full of Mums just like you.

We wouldn’t be here without them and we shall get through with them. MUMS X
