My heart is still so full from Saturday’s Byrd Barr Place Legacy in Motion Gala. 🤎✨

There is something so beautiful about seeing friends, family, and colleagues dressed up, sharing hugs, taking pictures, and gathering to celebrate an organization that has poured into our community for more than 60 years.

@drangelagriffin2u , congratulations to you and your team on a wonderful evening. Your vision and the work you lead at Byrd Barr Place are truly inspiring.

One highlight was watching @omarisal , CEO and co-founder of Converge Media, facilitate an incredible conversation with @michaelericdyson . And can we talk about the Seattle history Omari brought into that discussion? Hearing him speak about Black people's contributions to Seattle and Washington State filled me with so much pride. Our stories deserve to be told, remembered, and celebrated.

Congratulations to my Converge family, @dampeyalife1 , and my sister in every way that matters, @bossladyjaz , on your well-deserved awards! I love you both, and it brought me so much joy to see you receive your flowers. 💐

And @upscalesoul of Events by Sai @_eventsbysai … you deserve ALL of yours! From the moment we stepped off the elevator, every detail was stunning. The registration area, the hallway, the bar, the ballroom, the flowers everywhere… You created an entire experience. As someone who works in design and events, I could see the thought and care you poured into it. I am cheering for you and praying for your continued elevation.

Last night was about legacy, impact, and the power of community. ❤️🖤 @byrdbarrplace I am so grateful for every single one of your staff and board members for this distinct honor so happy to celebrate with all of you in your accomplishment.

I was deeply honored to receive community in motion award at the Legacy in Motion Gala a reminder that the work we do matters, the people we serve matter, and the impact we make together will always be bigger than any one of us.

Congratulations to @artenoirnow and Representative Christine Reeves on their well deserved recognition. It was powerful to celebrate people who continue to show up and put in the work to move our communities forward.

We also had the privilege of hearing from @michaelericdyson in a fireside chat with my brother @omarisal . The kind of conversation that challenges us, grounds us, and reminds us that our stories, our history, and our voices are too important to be ignored.

I never take moments like this lightly. The recognition is an honor, but the real reward is knowing that the work is making a difference.

Legacy isn’t about being celebrated in a room. It’s about what you do when you leave that room. It’s about who you bring with you, who you fight for, and what you leave better than you found it.

Grateful for the recognition. Even more committed to the work. We have too much at stake to do anything less.

🦋 Last night was a powerful celebration of community, service, and impact.
Honored to attend the ByrdBarrPlace Gala and the SeattleYMCA 150th Anniversary Changemakers Gala, two organizations transforming lives across our region.
A special congratulations to Dr. Angela Griffin and the Byrd Barr Place team for their commitment to economic opportunity, racial justice, and empowerment. Hearing Dr. Michael Eric Dyson speak about community power, equity, and generational prosperity was one of the evening’s highlights.

It was equally inspiring to celebrate 150 years of impact with the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Congratulations to Loria Yeadon and the entire YMCA team for their extraordinary leadership and service to our community.

✨ What stood out most was seeing supporters, donors, and community leaders move between both events, showing up for one another and demonstrating the power of collaboration.

💕 My favorite moment was the VIP after-party, where supporters from both organizations came together around a shared mission: expanding opportunity, advancing equity, and building stronger communities.

REV. DR. MICHAEL ERIC DYSON TO PREACH AT SEATTLE’S MOUNT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH THIS SUNDAY

SEATTLE, WA — Mount Zion Baptist Church will welcome nationally recognized scholar, author, cultural commentator, and ordained minister Rev. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson as its special guest preacher on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 10 a.m.

Dyson, widely known for his commentary on race, religion, politics, and American culture, has spent decades engaging audiences through his scholarship, public speaking, and ministry.

His upcoming appearance at Mount Zion offers the Seattle community an opportunity to hear from one of the nation’s prominent voices on faith, social justice, and contemporary issues.

The church invites attendees to come with open hearts and experience a morning of worship, reflection, and spiritual encouragement.

The service will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle, with both in-person and online attendance options available.
