The cast is heading into rehearsals (pun intended!) this week for Richard Strauss’s Salome.

Directed by Bruno Ravella and originally adapted from the Oscar Wilde play of the same name, this production places a biblically inspired story in a modern, bunker-like setting, where the prophet John and the princess Salome go head to head in the confines of the cistern where he’s held captive.

A tempestuous battle between the sacred and profane, Salome makes us question our understanding of seduction, devotion, and insanity, all set against the backdrop of Strauss’s haunting score and the infamous Dance of the Seven Veils.

Salome opens October 17 and is on stage through October 31, with audio description on October 25. Get tickets at the link in bio. Seattle Opera, Salome, Cast, a four by four grid of headshots of singers with their names and roles.

☀️OUT NOW: ‘Giants in the Earth’ is now available worldwide from @spotify @applemusic @amazonmusic @tidal @prestomusiccom and many more!

Douglas Moore’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera follows the story of Norwegian settlers to the Dakotas and receives its world premiere recording with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra under the music direction of Delta David Gier. Central to the story and its main character Per Beret is an ornate Norwegian chest, which serves as altar, refuge, and symbol of home - underscoring the opera’s themes of memory, tradition, and human longing.

🌎“Act I: ‘Heave a line!’” from the forthcoming world premiere recording of Douglas Moore’s ‘Giants in the Earth’ is now available on @spotify @applemusic @amazonmusic @tidal and many more!

Set on the stark Dakota plains, the drama follows Beret and Per Hansa, whose deep love is tested by isolation and the harsh realities of pioneer life. Moore’s text-driven vocal lines flow with natural expression, weaving short, expressive ariosos into a seamless melodic tapestry.

The album will be released in full on July 10th.

On Saturday, members of the Austin Opera team were in New York City to see the first public workshop of Ofrenda!

Austin Opera's first commission was featured in the American Lyric Theater's InsightALT, an intimate insider's look behind the scenes of creating new operas.

We were so thrilled to hear the audience reactions and can't wait for Austinites to experience this wonderful and special opera. Thank you American Lyric Theater, composer Jorge Sosa, librettist John de los Santos, pianist Kristen Kemp, and conductor Kamna Gupta.

Bravi to the incredible vocalists who performed with so much emotion throughout the workshop and the performance.
