One of the most extensive works created for AP Pension’s new headquarters was not installed on a wall, but incorporated directly into the floor.

Michael Kvium’s monumental floor mosaic was developed specifically for the building’s atrium and executed using the Palladiana technique with more than 100 different types of European natural stone.

During its realisation, Kvium’s motif was translated into a horizontal work spanning more than 1,200 m². Viewed at close range, the floor appeared almost abstract – a landscape of stone, colour and form. From the upper levels of the building, the fragments came together and the motif of white birch trunks emerged.

In 2025, AP Pension’s headquarters was awarded the Naturstensprisen, recognising the building’s holistic use of natural stone – from floors and staircases to the reception desk and architectural details. Kvium’s floor mosaic became a striking example of an ambition that shaped the project from the beginning

Er billedkarruseller stadig acceptable her på IG? Og er det ok, man heller ikke putter musik på sit opslag?

Jeg forstår ikke algoritmen.

Men her er i hvert fald nogle billeder fra mig.

A look back at a project several years in the making.

For AP Pension’s new headquarters in Nordhavn, art was considered from the very beginning as part of the building’s architecture, identity and everyday environment.

The project began with an informal conversation with AP Pension’s CEO, Bo Normann, back in 2019. What started as an idea about introducing art into a new setting gradually developed into a larger vision: to create a building where art could grow alongside the architecture and the culture that would become part of its daily life.

Throughout the project, Galleri Franz Pedersen acted as an art advisor and curatorial link between the artists and the client. Among the artists we brought into the project were Michael Kvium, Maria Rubinke and Jacob Rantzau, each of whom created site-specific works for the building.
The result ranged from monumental paintings and bronze sculptures to a floor installation spanning more than 1,200 m², integrated directly into the building’s atrium.

The close integration of art and architecture also formed part of the building’s approach to sustainability. The headquarters was pre-certified DGNB Gold and was expected to achieve DGNB Diamond, while the site-specific integrated artworks could contribute under DGNB’s bonus indicator for integrated art.

IN FOCUS

Michael Kvium’s painting, "Facing I & II" (2026), is on view as part of the current focus26 presentation at our gallery on Glentevej 49.

The new paintings on view continue a logic of inversion, in which black and white are not merely formal opposites but coexist within the same figures. Clothing, objects, faces, and backgrounds are divided and reversed, producing pairs in which one image seems to contain the possibility of its opposite. In the smaller works, the division enters the figure itself, splitting the face between contrasting identities. The paintings suggest that positive and negative are not fixed states but two sides of the same image.

A beautiful gesture from one artist to another. Flowers sent by a fellow artist for the opening of *New Paintings* — a quiet expression of friendship, collegiality and mutual respect.

We love how the bouquet seems to enter into a dialogue with the flowers in the painting.
