NEW WORK WITH TONI KROOS FOR COCA-COLA & ONEFOOTBALL

„Write something you find funny and make it work with Toni Kroos within a few hours of shooting. Oh, and it’s for Coca-Cola and about fan rituals.“

Thats pretty much the task i was given by @jayraff and @matthias.l__ . So thanks first and foremost for their trust. Sometimes I am just incredibly lucky, I guess, and so we got to work.

I always approach these character-driven mockumentaries with the same idea: What if someone creates this seemingly chaotic result with precision and passion? And what if that person takes himself super seriously?

So we developed Armando, the world’s first fan ritual coach. I wanted to give it an ironic twist and flesh out this „Armando“ character with a few ideas I had for a while bouncing around in my head: Fans are always criticizing the players, but what if they actually performed and trained much harder? What if there is technique and skill to seemingly impulsive emotional reactions?

The casting process is the most crucial step for these films. A) You need someone to invent his own lines and character traits based on my idea and B) he needs to be able to carry the whole thing. Because one thing we could not do: Talk or rehearse with Toni beforehand.

So it was pretty much 50% a very well-rehearsed performance by the amazing Michael Collis @michaelruizcollis and 50% a slightly confused but certainly amused Toni Kroos. The idea, after all, was this: Let Toni react, not act. And let someone else shoulder the burden of understanding this nonsense-profession I made up.
