“It’s Gone” performed by Mackenzie Ray and choreographed by Michelle Barfield 🤩

This routine won 1st overall at regionals, was invited to perform in the closing showcase, and received a GR8 adjudication. We love the artistry and emotion we received every time from this piece 💗

“Milez” by Early Era Collective

Featuring Austin-based hip-hop duet @magnacarda, eight Early Era dancers inspect the systems by which we abide, and the sameness required of average people to operate within those systems. Our artists must decide whether to stay within the boxes that confine them or break free.

Produced by: Early Era Collective and Stephanie Patrick
Co-Directed by: @perfect.is.b0ring and @benfromoklahoma
Co-Choreographed by: @danielbroxton and Stephanie Patrick
Director of Photography and Editor: Ben Lee

Danced by: Daniel Broxton, @laurenwhodances @mia_moii @michellebarf @jairuscarr @jaylin_lane @cfullylove and Stephanie Patrick
Poster design by: Ketan Patel

Featuring Magna Carda and their original song “Milez.”

“Milez” was featured at 11 film festivals in 2022 and 2023:

Our FINAL stop on the “Milez” film fest tour will be at the Oscar-qualifying @deadcenterfilm June 8-11 in Oklahoma City! This time next month, “Milez” will have screened in 10 cities and 6 states to 1,000s of people. This opportunity has been incredible—we’ve learned so much and met so many awesome artists and fest producers along the way. Stay tuned for info about the film’s public release!

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to mad film scientist @benfromoklahoma. You pushed yourself artistically with this project, followed your muse, and created a one-of-a-kind work.

Thank you to @magnacarda for trusting us with your music and taking a chance on a random request to collaborate! Our choreographers @danielbroxton and Stephanie Patrick and our awesome dancers @laurenwhodances @mia_moii @jairuscarr @michellebarf @cfullylove and @jaylin_lane somehow made sense of this project through online rehearsals and solo masked film shoots in the heat of the pandemic.

Thank you, Ketan Patel, for creating (and constantly updating) our beautiful poster! We’re grateful to all of our Board Members, volunteers, and The Creative Fund for supporting this project!

“Milez” was produced by Early Era Collective and Stephanie Patrick, and directed by Stephanie Patrick and Ben Lee.

Can’t wait to dance with @michellebarf at the intensive!!

Michelle Barfield has been dancing since the age of two, consistently training in various styles. Growing up, she trained under Quinton Weathers with Rise Dance Company in Round Rock, Texas. She had the opportunity to learn from choreographers all around the world, bringing fresh perspectives and styles into her learning process. After graduating high school, Michelle moved out to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a dancer and choreographer. While in LA, she danced under and worked with leading and emerging choreographers such as Jason Gorman, Mitchel Federan, Baden Silva, and got the opportunity to perform in Andrew Winghart’s concept video “Cry Me a River”. In addition to that, she was accepted into the Gypsy Project lead by Erica Sobol, where she got to delve into the world of concert dance, choreography, and even a bit of philosophy. Now, she’s back in Austin not only to share her love and knowledge that she’s gained from exploring the dance industry, but is hoping to continually learn from her students. Michelle believes highly in the concept that dance offers endless growth and exploration, which draws inspiration into her work and life.

It was an honor to be one of only 30 dance films featured at Dance On Camera Festival in New York last weekend! And more than that, it was a privilege to have so much support at our screening of “Milez.” It might be time to start a New York branch of Early Era! Thank you to all who came out, and to the festival for curating such an inspiring mix of films this weekend. Leaving NY inspired and recharged!

To the team who made this happen: Ben Lee, Magna Carda, Daniel Broxton and our 8-person dance cast — your work got us here. Thank you for sharing your talents and wild creativity with this film. 🙏🏼
