On this beautiful Victorian home, the existing casement window was out of keeping with the character of the building.
A new, traditionally styled frame with outward-opening sashes was therefore crafted and installed, complete with extended rain drips and deeper cills to ensure effective water run-off away from the masonry.
The new sashes were carefully detailed to match the original mouldings found on the upper storey with sandblasted 6.4 lam glass, preserving the architectural continuity of the façade. Finished with plush beehive fittings, the window now sits comfortably within the period aesthetic, restoring the property to a more authentic and sympathetic state. This kind of work is about doing things properly to put back what would of been there before. If you’ve got a period property that needs the right approach, feel free to drop us a message.

One of the windows on this Victorian home I’m doing had extremely a lot of rot on this. So i ended up cutting all the rot out & using 1hr & 4hr @timbabuild system to do the repairs with wooden 45% splices, a with new cill fitted along with new pulley styles and checks on the box frame. Plus new single glazed sashes as they was to far gone. Then finished off with sanding it all down and several coats of Zinsser cover stain to prime & undercoat, then Zinsser allcoat for the topcoat from @zinsseruk . Slowly bringing this home back to its original state.
Everything on this job was carefully repaired & keeping as much of the original timber and detail as possible.
This kind of work is about doing things properly — taking the time to repair, preserve and respect what’s already stood the test of time. If you’ve got a period property that needs the right approach, feel free to drop us a message.

When I was based in Weston-super-Mare I made sash windows monthly.

Moved to Caerphilly, not a single window in two years.

It was a pleasure completing this project in Bury St Edmunds, which included the full restoration of eight original Edwardian sash windows, along with a set of kitchen doors and a patio door.

The existing sash windows were fully restored and draught-proofed before we retrofitted slimline heritage double glazing into the original sashes—improving warmth, energy efficiency and comfort while retaining the character of the property.

We believe in doing the job correctly and carrying out proper repairs that will stand the test of time. We don’t simply cover rotten timber with filler and paint over it.

All defective timber is carefully cut out and renewed using a combination of durable hardwood and the Repair Care resin system. The windows are then thoroughly prepared and fully decorated to provide long-lasting protection.

✅ Original Edwardian sashes retained
✅ Defective and rotten timber removed
✅ Hardwood and Repair Care resin repairs
✅ Slimline heritage double glazing retrofitted
✅ Full draught-proofing system installed
✅ Professionally prepared and decorated

Thank you to our customer for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Recommendations like this mean a great deal to a small family-run business.

At first glance, this window looked tired—but once dismantled, the true extent of the decay became clear.

Large sections of the bottom frame and surrounding timber were completely rotten. Rather than replace the entire window, we removed the failed timber and rebuilt the damaged sections using new hardwood, retaining as much of the original window as possible.

We also upgraded the existing sashes with slimline heritage double glazing—improving warmth and energy efficiency without losing the window’s original character.

✅ Extensive timber repairs
✅ Rotten sections replaced with new hardwood
✅ Existing sashes repaired and overhauled
✅ Slimline heritage double glazing retrofitted
✅ New cords and correct balancing
✅ Draught-proofing system installed
✅ Fully prepared and decorated

The finished window now operates properly, offers improved thermal performance and is protected for years to come—all while retaining its original timber and character.

Replacement isn’t always the answer. Even seriously deteriorated windows can often be saved and upgraded with the right knowledge and craftsmanship.

A day in the life when every hour is a different mission. 🚐💨

Started the morning in Harlow measuring a window that was hanging on by hope alone and definitely overdue for a replacement. Next stop? A busy building site, getting measurements sorted for a stunning set of French doors.

No time to slow down—straight to the car wash because the van has to look as sharp as the work. Then cruised through Hackney, taking in some seriously beautiful architecture and picking up fresh inspiration along the way.

Caught up with one of our painting teams to check progress before hitting the road again to Mighton, near Saffron Walden, to grab replacement springs and keep the jobs moving.

Finished the day the only way that made sense—swapping the work grind for the gym grind. From windows to worksites, city streets to site visits, it’s non-stop… and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🔥

Broken sash cords not a problem for us 👌 on this job we had trouble with the weights moving & coming out & had to removed all of the lead wrapped around the sash weights and up in the box (done by another company) Now this is totally wrong way to do it, as is causes big problems as the lead can move & get stuck up in the box! Once all out we replace all 4 cords with @mightonproductsltd pre stretched nylon sash cord, checked the weights and they was way out and added new 38mm lead add on’s on top of the weight in the correct way, sprayed the pulley wheels with WD40 and get the window all back together again like we hadn’t touched it all within our price.
