Hello Friends,

What makes succession truly successful?
In this conversation on succession as a feminist practice at Azadi, @wanjiku__mwangi shares three things that make all the difference: relationships, learning and accountability.
A meaningful transition isn’t just about passing on leadership. It’s about building trust, learning together and creating space for others to lead and grow.

Hello Friends,

“...if you think about succession as a feminist practice, you understand that your power grows when you share it rather than when you keep it”. - @sophieotiende

Hello Friends,

In this candid conversation, @mariam_awori , @sophieotiende and @wanjiku__mwangi reflect on what succession means at Azadi Community, not simply as a leadership transition but as a feminist leadership practice.
From the beginning, Azadi has intentionally built structures that make space for continuity, shared leadership and a thoughtful transition of power.
For us, succession is not just about who comes next. It’s about building an organisation that can continue to thrive, grow and stay true to its values.

Sometimes, hope is not a grand promise.
Sometimes, it is simply a pair of hands reaching out when someone is struggling.
It is the meal shared when there is barely enough.
The door left open when someone has nowhere else to go.
The voice that says, “You are not alone.”
The hands that keep showing up, even when they are tired.
We may not be able to change everything.
We may not be able to erase every hardship.
But we can choose to care.
We can choose to stand beside one another.
And we can choose to plant something good, even in difficult soil.
Because every act of kindness is a seed.
Every person who cares helps it grow.
And sometimes, what begins with a few hands becomes a whole community holding each other up.
This is where hope takes root.
Not in promises, but in people.
Not in words, but in action.
Not alone, but together. 🌱🤍

Hello Friends,

We’re at the Freedom From Slavery Forum 2026 by Free the Slaves.

Come meet Azadi Community, our partners and young feminists at the Forum as we connect, learn and imagine what survivor-led change can look like.
On Day 1, we’ll also host a side event, “From Consultation to Power-Sharing: Meaningful Engagement of People with Lived Experience,” exploring how institutions can move beyond simply listening to people with lived experience towards sharing power and decision-making with them.
We believe that lived experience should not just inform the conversation, it should have a seat at the table.

Hello Friends,

Our #BeyondRescueKe conversation explored what long-term reintegration really means for survivors of human trafficking.

From healing and safe housing to livelihoods, relationships, community and agency, rebuilding a life takes more than a safe exit.

We reflected on the gaps, the role of different stakeholders and what it takes to build stronger, survivor-centred pathways to thriving.

Swipe through for key reflections. ➡️

Hello Friends,

For one of our members, Azadi became a second home, a place to build confidence, strengthen her leadership, support others and advocate for her sisters.
When we create space to thrive, we create space for others to thrive too.
— FGD with Adolescent and Young Women, Mbogo, 2025.
