Nearly a million people have been deported since President Trump took office. As many as 1.5 million have “self deported”. A new analysis by the @migrationpolicyinstitute gives a clearer picture of what Trump’s immigration policy looks like on a large scale. I’ll link to the analysis and other materials in my stories. @npr

During its second term, the Trump administration has focused unprecedented attention and resources on expanding the number of arrests and deportations within the United States and encouraging existing unauthorized immigrants to “self deport.” Yet the impacts of these efforts are difficult to measure due both to reduced immigration enforcement reporting by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and long-standing confusion about the different ways the department counts deportations.

This fact sheet uses publicly available DHS data1 to examine the number of deportations (a term that comprises removals and returns; see Box 1 for a description of key terms) carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) during the first 18 months of the second Trump term.

In the absence of official DHS reporting of detailed enforcement data since January 2025, these are the first estimates of total deportations for the current Trump administration, aside from brief statements by administration officials to news organizations and on social media.

In @brotherhoodmusical, @rossboothe uses a story of two long-time neighbors and the music of their hearts to push us to ask questions about what immigration, asylum, and seeking refuge means for our own neighbors.

Tonight at @jwamezdc, leaders from @welcomingusa @wearecasa_org @congactionnet and State Business Executives discussed how we might use the beautiful performances of @martinezmau and @caseycelliott and their costars as a catalyst for conversations and action in our own communities.

Brotherhood: A Cinematic Musical premieres in select theaters nationwide on October 9th.

Consider how this powerful film with its moving soundtrack could be a chance for your church, synagogue, school parent group, or local organization to come together in the strength of love over fear!

English isn’t just a language class. As anyone working in adult education and immigrant services, we know and feel this so deeply.

It’s the confidence to speak up. The ability to help your child with school. A pathway to a better job. A way to navigate healthcare, housing, and everyday life in a new country.

Trump declared English the official language. For millions of adult learners, access to quality English instruction remains essential to building stability, opportunity, and belonging.

This week’s NPR @nprcodeswitch episode is a powerful reminder of why adult education matters. We hear from the students and the ED of @lincoln.literacy, a policy analyst from @migrationpolicyinstitute, and Hmong American teacher and writer based in Minneapolis @kaokaliayang
