POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The day before my dad passed away, my sister and I took Nicholas to Bannerman’s Island on the Hudson River. We met some of my dearest friends there. It was uncommonly comfortable at 73 degrees and windy. The sky was blue, the flowers blooming, the ospreys soaring, and the butterflies fluttering around us. I’m not a religious person. My dad taught me to revere nature and seek peace and wisdom in trees. I feel best outdoors. I’d planned to drive out to Pennsylvania the next morning to share pictures and stories of our castle and boating adventures with dad, but he passed away in the night. At first I felt guilty. I’d just experienced a magical day. But then I remembered who my dad taught me to be, what’s most valuable in life. I’m quite sure now that I was in the right place, with the perfect people, at the very best time. Thank you all for the sweet notes yesterday. You were so supportive when I was incredibly sad. I appreciate you bearing with me this week, as I continue to work through this. It’s strange to seek solace in social media. It’s supposed to be a bad place. But that has never been my experience. I’ve found so many friends here. We’re heading to the Finger Lakes today to gather with more family. Dad didn’t want a funeral. So we’ll just share stories in a beautiful place that he loved, instead.
