“I pray spring ‘26 is good to me” — January 7th, 2026

God always rewards those who are faithful. He’s brought me a mighty long way. I’m grateful to be able to appreciate the journey and detach from the destination. I’m blessed to be able to step into this new chapter.

To Kuamka: I had a million excuses as to why me and Kuamka wouldn’t work. For me, it wasn’t about winning, I just had to prove to myself I could. Grateful for my cohort and the coaches who poured into me. It’s an honor to be Mr. Kuamka 2026.

To Double A: There’s no comfort in growth and there’s no growth in comfort. I’m grateful to join a legacy of black men who don’t talk about it, they just do it. Shoutout to my LBs, I couldn’t have done it without y’all. Shoutout my Dean and Pros for guiding me to ALPHA LAND!

I’m not done, I’m just getting started 👑☝🏾

The 2026 Kuamka Extravaganza: a celebration of enduring legacy, academic achievement, empowering leadership, and self-determination. 💜

This event marks the third signature AACRC program that was privately funded and fully brought to life through the dedication, vision, and execution of student leadership and planning efforts.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this week-long celebration possible: our sponsors, partners, coaches, judges, alumni, vendors, performers, and volunteers. Your support, time, and belief in this tradition continue to push the Kuamka forward.

Congratulations to all of this year’s candidates on a job well done, especially our newly crowned Mr. and Ms. Kuamka, Te’Mon Fisher and Beza Eshetu!

Time and time again, our community shows up for one another—proving that our joy, connection, and collective pride are not tied to physical spaces. They are sustained and strengthened through action: staying rooted in tradition while continuing to build something powerful for generations to come. #leap #kuamka2026

Introducing Mr. Kuamka Candidate #1, Michael Oteng.

Michael is a self-disciplined 3rd year originating from Columbus, OH, majoring in Digital Media Collaborative with a minor in Media Production. Growing up, he developed a passion for creativity and performance early on, participating in choir, drums, band, and reading various graphic novels, as well as engaging in his church community. In high school, he maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher for five consecutive semesters, earning multiple academic honors.

At UC, Michael began his college journey through the transitions program and the UC’s African Student Association (UCASA) mentorship program which connected him with upperclassman mentors that inspired him to later step into leadership roles himself. He also extended his commitment to service beyond campus by volunteering with the African American Male Wellness Agency Walk, partaking in sandwich-making drives, and the black student graduation ceremony, Tyehimba.

Throughout student leadership, he went on to serve as Secretary for the UC’s Ghana Student Association (UCGSA) that allowed him to share his Ghanaian heritage on campus and worked as a student worker at the former African American Cultural Resource Center.

Currently, he contributes to leadership roles as part of the Men’s Committee for Curled Collective, Secretary for UC’s Heroes, and Treasurer for Reel Roots Production. Recognized on the Dean’s List three times with a certificate in Basic Hebrew, he has shown commitment to academic excellence.

Michael aspires to become an art illustrator with the goal of establishing his own art studio, expanding his creative horizons, and supporting emerging artists through mentorship and shared experiences.
