New Exhibition: ON SHIFT at the Denler Gallery (University of Northwestern St Paul, Minnesota).

RECEPTION: March 20th (5-8 pm)

This exhibition highlights the work of a dozen ceramic artists who collectively fire the St Denis Frandrup wood kiln at the College of St Benedict and St John’s University. Twice a year for over a decade a diverse creative community forms to guide students and fire each other’s work. Sharing a common fire, the team works in concert, collaborates, and has build a robust and dynamic community.

Chernobog: In Slavic mythology, Chernobog, meaning "Black God," is a deity associated with darkness, evil, and misfortune. He is often depicted as a tall, menacing figure with horns, bright red eyes, and dressed in black. Chernobog is often associated with death, destruction, and bad omens, and is considered the culprit behind tragedies and mishaps.

Why get a tattoo associated with evil, death, and misfortune? The same reason medieval churches were decorated with gargoyles. Make yourself the biggest badass around and you don't have to worry about any of the little baddies messing with you.

if you wanted to get a tattoo to scare off evil spirits and bad juju, what would YOU get? Me personally? I'm going with Care bears. Absolute nightmare fuel. Seriously?! Stuffed animal cartoon bears with tattooed bellies that shoot laser beams! Nuff said.

Look what arrived as a complete surprise today. I am on the cover of Ceramics Monthly!

@ceramics_monthly

I’m deeply grateful (and blindsided) but this honor. I have felt so encouraged and supported over the years by my many mentors, teachers, colleagues, friends and family. I could not be the artist I am today without their love and support.

Hey there! I wanted to get in touch on behalf of @gnarcystore . We've got some seriously rad jewelry lined up, and I reckon you'd be the best match to rock our latest collection of masculine accessories!

If you're up for it, we'd love to hook you up with three pieces on the house! Yup, you read that right – totally FREE!

Just shoot a DM over to our main account @gnarcystore (if you dont see a DM button, just reply to any of their stories), and our guy Shawn will sort you out pronto! But hey, don't sleep on it – spots are filling up fast, and we'd hate for you to miss out on the action! Cheers, mate! 🤙

The results from this last firing continue to amaze. I especially love the soft blushing tones which shimmer across the body until they don’t.

Wood firing is a team effort and I might be working with the best crew around: @mikesmieja @artmcarlson @joesingewaldpottery @zoepowellceramics @mitchiburgceramics @danielsmithpottery #csbsju #csbsjuart #csbsjuartclub #samueljohnsonpottery #anagama #woodfiredpottery #pottery #ceramic #vase #rustic #rusticbeauty #contemplitiveart #mnartist #madeinminnesota #contemporaryceramics #artaxis #quietart

A couple of stunning photos from friends Katreina Gibson and Joe Singewald @joesingewaldpottery from our firing.
.
Despite the subfreezing temperatures durning loading, we had beautiful weather during the firing. With the help of a great crew, guest artists and many students, we had a good firing.
