In 2012 the new vat room is presented at the property, built by scenographer Richard Peduzzi and Bernard Mezières, a harmony of wood and steel. ⠀
The particular thing about it is that the wooden doors 🚪 slide making of the place a scene with changing decorations. ⠀
20 vats are steel and 44 vats are wooden and quite innovating, plexiglass ribs allow to see what happens inside without opening the vat valves or hatches, the lower hatch is not on a side but right at the bottom, that allows a better draining and easier manipulations.

So, speaking technically, 3 times per day pumping over during fermentation (10 days alcoholic, 10 days malolactic), new oak barrels for the 1st year and 2 nd year in used barrels, parcel vinification and before aging blending. Reblending after aging in oak barrels. 6 times soutirage (on the video) and egg 🥚 filtration - are the main traditions used in Chateau.

It was in 1924 when baron Philippe made all bordelaise properties bottle their wines at property instead of sending barrels to Bordeaux. Thus a bigger barrel hall was needed to host the bottles, that was how the hundred meters long Great Barrel Hall was designed by Charles Siclis. Without any post the ceiling is supported by metallic structure - very developed technique of this period.

After one year spent in the great barrel hall the wine is aged in second year barrels in second year cellar.

The cellar also contains 120 000 bottles of Mouton and other Chateau’s of Bordeaux region, recorked every 25-30 years. The oldest vintage of Mouton is 1859 kept for museum purposes.

The amount of production is impressive: 250 000 of bottles for Mouton and 150 000 of bottles for Petit Mouton 🐑 introduced by baroness Philippine de Rothschild in 1989.

🏰 Château Pape Clément. Pessac, Bordeaux, France 🇫🇷

In 1252 the history 📜of wine making begun here in Pessac - a village attached to Bordeaux. Bertrand de Goth, the bishop of Bordeaux asked his brother to purchase the vineyard in 1299. In 1305 Bertrand de Goth being already the king 🤴 of France 🇫🇷 is elected the pope of Rome. One year later Pape Clement IV gives the vineyard his name: Chateau Pape Clément🏰. Nowadays the wine estate 🏡 is classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves 1959 🍷and belongs to famous winemaker Bernard Magrez since 1985.

Located very close to Bordeaux city center and 15 minutes only from Mérignac airport ✈️the property has some rare advantages among bordelaise castles 🏰 and offers marvelous suites and serves often as a wedding 💒 place thanks to surrounding park 🌳.

In my case we had an excellent opportunity to visit Chateau Pape Clément where AirFrance organized a wine tasting for their top clients, animated by best sommelier 2013 Paolo Basso🍷.

My last village of Provence cycle is Valensole, center of lavandin and olive oil production. Populated by Ligurians in Roman times the village was built on a hill - very typical for the region lacking of water 💦 .

Around it is a flat plateau dissected by Durance river bassin favorable for agriculture of lavandin and cereal. The unique geographic conditions made of Valensole the world capital of lavandin 🌾🌎.

The sights of the village are La Grande Fontaine ⛲️ (pic 4) and le Lavoir fountain ⛲️ (pic 6)where I’m old times people did the laundry 🧺 as well as two remarkable gardens - the French gardens with this label 🏷 worth visiting: one by the Chateau du Grand Jardin (pic 7) 🏰 and another one is the property of Clos de Villeneuve 🏡 (pic 8, 9).

Of corse it’s the place to buy souvenirs made from lavender, aromatic soaps, essential oils and best honey 🍯 or to participate in estival festivities celebrating lavender.

🏞Lac de Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, Provence, France 🇫🇷

This emerald color water 💦 is nothing else than an artificial lake created by French electricity company EDF⚡️ in 1973. Water from Verdon river flowing from Massif des Trois Évêchés 🏔 down to Durance river is retained by a dam after the village called Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, one out of two survived villages 🏘 in the valley after its flooding, burying und the water the village of Les-Salles-sur-Verdon 🏚 and making of the valley the fourth biggest lake in France.

The lake is now very popular in summer time for sun bathing ☀️🏖thanks to its sandy beaches, yachting ⛵️and kayaking🛶, diesel ⛽️ motor boats 🚤 are prohibited 🚫 for sailing ⚓️ on it. Horse 🐎 clubs and numerous campings 🏕 are spread everywhere on its shores.

Upstream there is a Mecca for kayaking 🚣‍♂️- Gorges du Verdon a very narrow but deep canyon. The film 🎞 of Bertrand Blier with Gerard Depardieu as a main role and young rising star 💫 Carol Bouquet called “Buffet Froid” was filmed in this location in 1979.

On the west the Plateau de Valensole is located where lavender 🌾 cultivation is a major sight.

A perfect location in the south of France for wealthy people who enjoy sport activities: surfing 🏄‍♀️ golf ⛳️ bicycle 🚵 and jogging 🏃, even ballroom dancing 🕺 festivals and pop concerts are often held here. Fresh seafood 🦞 is also guaranteed. ⠀
First of all it’s important to mention the waterfront of Biarritz. If you’re planning a visit here - I suggest you choosing may and June when the slopes are covered with flourishing hortensias 🌺: white, light blue, pink, light green... in a combination of cliffs, half submerged rocks, pine trees and bridges 🌉 it makes Biarritz promenade the most beautiful seaside promenade in the whole world 🗺.

Luxury resort.
Some say that local plastic surgery is also of a high demand. If you ever get bored by the coastline there is a waste choice of luxury boutiques and a number of local brands, specializing in summer and surf-ware, cotton table lingerie, chocolate 🍫 and pastry 🥮.

Several huge Spa hotels 🏨 are located on the coast line. The most beautiful of them is a chateau 🏰 built for Her Majesty Imperatrice Eugénie of France the wife of Napoleon III will open its doors 🚪after the full renovation under a new owner Hyatt in 2020.

Be careful in water, the currents are strong and the waves may wash 🧼 your belongings off the beach if you place yourselves too close to the sea 🌊 in a stormy period of the year - Biarritz is a top destination as winter is very mild here and temperatures vary not significantly throughout the year. Some people organized a community of Polar Bears 🐻 and keep on swimming 🏊‍♀️ all year round.

Nice place to visit would be the museum of sea telling the history of courageous basque fishermen and whale 🐳 hunting in the past, offering aquarium with sharks 🦈 dolphins 🐬fish 🐟 squids 🦑 shrimps 🦐octopuses 🐙 and 🐚🐡🦎so on. tactile pool for children 👶 where they may rich a sea star or a cucumber 🥒 fish 🐠 for example.

One thing which you would probably miss is yachting ⛵️ however there are always some opportunities in nearby villages in 15-20 minutes from town.

At the entrée to the port of Saint-Tropez get enormous feeling visiting old friends - movie 🎥 heroes of 1960’s - 1980’s - Les Gendarmes de Saint-Tropez at their home - historical building which used to be a real Gendarmerie until the end of 1970’s.

Leaded by ridiculous sergeant Cruchot performed by incredible Luis de Funès and adjutant Gerber played by Michel Galabru, 4 gendarmes 👮‍♀️ protected the town and the coastline from mafia, criminals, nudists, exchanging experience with international police departments in New York, retiring and coming back for final missions against the invaders and integration of first females into police 👮‍♀️ in 1980’s.

You will get nostalgic while the visit, watching some interviews with stars ⭐️ , objects used for filmmaking, discovering the multitude of the jobs in filmmaking. By the way, there are halls dedicated to a number of other famous movies 🎥 produced here in hommage to Brigitte Bardot, Allain Delon, Romy Schneider etc.

Of course there is a floor dedicated to the National Gendarmerie where one may discover the history, uniforms and objects used by gendarmes on duty.

Last but not least - have fun inside old timers 🚘 - similar cars to those used in filmmaking of the Gendarmes 👮‍♀️ ⠀

Followed after by a cycle of Gendarme de Saint-Tropez 👮🏼‍♂️with Luis de Funès and his funny companions. ⠀
In fact the filmmakers and stars liked staying here in summer time getting inspired by the calm, peacefulness and authenticity of a former fisherman village.

The fanciest villas 🏡 listing the house of its main star ⭐️ Mme Bardot are outside the town scattered in a pine tree forests🌳 in full privacy and having a privileged access to the long sandy beaches⛱🏖 famous for beach clubs🍾🍹.

Nowadays waterfront of Saint-Tropez is crowded with tourists📸, packed with fashion shops🛍, yachts, expensive restaurants🍽 like Senequier - a place you may see almost in each movie 🎥 about 👮‍♂️ . If you get deeper into its old narrow flowering 🌺streets you will be surprised by their cleanliness and silence - the fleur of huge money 💵of its summer residents is everywhere!
