I stepped out of my work filled bubble last week to catch a much-needed bookish evening with @sophiegreenbooks at @macleansbooks to celebrate the release of THE FROCK SHOP. It’s a story about a group of women who congregate around a Mossman icon - a charity dress shop. It’s rich in character and setting with a dash of nostalgia for those that remember the 1990s (and I certainly do, hence my music choice). Throughout the book there are chapter designated to the “life” of particular items of clothing reflecting the experiences of the people that owned them. I found them really touching and the memories we hold dear when we hang on to items or the reasons we sometimes let them go. A five star read for me (review to follow later this week with some snippets from Sophie about her characters and process). I’ve now read three of Sophie’s books (see WEEKENDS WITH THE SUNSHINE HARDENING SOCIETY + ART HOUR AT THE DUCHESS HOTEL). They always resonate because I can always seem to identify aspects of life as I know it in the characters lives she writes. As always it’s good to catch ups to local bookish friends old and new! @amandajaneoconnor @donsmn and @mikreads98 More bookish details in the comments. Feel free to share any updates with me, as I’ve been a bit absent due to work, not so great health, and family stuff. What are your most reads? For Australian friends, who are we picking in our final series and finals? . . 🏷️ Aussie authors - @hachetteaus - bookshop - book event - bookish AF - friends who read - an evening in - love of reading - bookstores - contemporary fiction - cover love - op shop - thrift shop - goodwill
