✨Morning Mobility ✨

Balance is f*ing hard.

When I was a professional performing artist it was even harder.

The drive to succeed in a highly competitive field reinforces false equivalencies:

Equating discipline with productivity;

More physical output with superiority;

Achievement with personal value.

I am still carrying these narratives with me, from years of the adrenal fatigue that happens despite the incredible rewards that come with a highly unusual, outward-facing vocation.

Recently I realized I still bring it into my physical practice as a certified personal trainer.

And while I am the strongest I’ve ever been, there are days I just can’t perform the way I want to. And that happens to EVERY ONE OF US.

Yet I would never browbeat a client the way I automatically browbeat myself.

At 45, I am still learning that my value as a human has nothing to do with the work I have done in the past, am doing now, or will do in the future.

Our worth as humans beings is just intrinsic.

So. I’m pausing a little more to listen…

Listening to my body as it is now, today, this year, with deep gratitude for the legacy of work my body did for me in the past.

I’m taking more time to be gentle with myself.

To notice when the critique starts to bubble up automatically.

To pause when I feel the instinct to push harder.

To breathe out the moment I start speaking harshly to myself.

To notice the stories, give them their moment, then let them go, with love.

That’s the balance I’ve set my eyes on now.

And it’s the balance I wish for every single one of you who has ever felt like this.

Speak kindly to yourself. Be gentle with your body. Move, breathe, and love your heart ✨
