Le Dépanneur Café is proud to be observing The Year of the Friend in 2026. Our little community is built on friendship in all of its forms. Do you want to observe the year of the friend? It’s easy, all you have to do is take the pledge. Find a friend, look them in the eye and say “I want to be as good a friend to you as you are to me.”
Don’t you feel better now?
Happy Year of the Friend to you and yours,
Team Dep ✌️

I still can’t believe that this is my job. I get to come work in one of the most magical places on earth. I’m so lucky to get to share my space with so many talented artists. Other cafes just play the same Mac Demarco record every day on repeat but we get to unplug and listen to amazing artists sharing their talents with us. It’s the kind of thing that can only happen in the Mile End, this one of a kind neighborhood that is oozing culture 24 hours a day.
We are eternally grateful for our musicians, our regulars, our neighbours and all of you following us from wherever you happen to be.

Back on Substack this week with a deep dive on the tomato industrial complex and all the work that went into making our BLT. We want the tomatoes at dep cafe to taste *nonna approved*. I never met my nonna and from what I understand she wasn’t much for cooking but I’m 100% certain that she would have loved this sandwich.
It’s been really fun sharing a behind the scenes look at what goes into our decision making at the cafe. Your feedback has been heartwarming. Thank you for taking the time to read and share your thoughts.
If there’s anything you’re curious about and think I should write about, let me know!
Also, big thanks to @jedmontreal for this beautiful tribute to our sandwich 💕
