I rarely share about work, but this truly feels like the end of an era 🥲

6 years ago, @adyharley gave a 20-year-old her first big girl job. Now at 27, last Friday was my last day at Meta.

Every day for the past 6 years, I’ve logged on to work with the password: Excited2behere

I chose that PW on my first day at FB as a contractor. No matter what the workday brought, I wanted a daily reminder that I was grateful to be there.

I started during the pandemic, 2 months out of college, as a “last resort” when the career path I thought I wanted suddenly disappeared. I had no idea that decision would lead me to a new city, new people, and experiences I couldn’t have imagined.

I got to build a career in the creator economy before I even knew that was what I was doing. I supported creators and public figures big and small and watched things I worked on become part of how people create and connect. And then there were moments that felt less like work and more like a front-row seat to pop culture.

If I’m being honest, I’m not going to miss the job. Because a job is, at the end of the day, a job.

It was the relationships I’ll carry beyond it that made this experience so special.

Coworkers who became friends. Managers who became mentors. People who challenged me, believed in me, taught me things I needed to learn, and checked in when things were hard.

When I think about that PW, I don’t think it was really about the job.

It was about perspective.

These are just the highlights. There were plenty of days when I wasn’t excited to start the workday, when typing that PW felt ironic.

But I was grateful nonetheless.

Grateful that someone took a chance on me.
Grateful that I got to learn and contribute.
Grateful for what this job represented.

To my parents: I hope my career is one small piece of evidence that their sacrifices were worthwhile.

To my community: young women, Black women, Latin women, have a seat at the table.

And to me: trust the process. Take the leap even when it isn’t part of the plan or scares you. Because what if it actually works out better than you expected?

I basically grew up here.

And now it’s time to leave the nest. New adventure soon. ❤️
