Here’s what it taught us 👇🏼

Empathy:
The story helps students recognize emotions in others, understand different perspectives, and learn that our words and reactions can affect how someone feels.

Problem-solving:
Rather than the story ending with Ramon simply changing who he is, the characters learn to work through the situation, finding ways to understand, accept, and support him. It models how challenges can be addressed through communication, flexibility, and cooperation of.

Social awareness:
The book gently shows that when something feels unfamiliar or different, the solution isn’t avoidance, it’s curiosity, compassion, and figuring out how to move forward together.

That’s why it works so well in a preschool classroom, it opens the door to meaningful conversations about how our actions affect others and how we can solve social problems kindly, which are big skills at this age.

y’all, i am so behind on sharing what i’ve been working on… mostly because i’ve been working on it. this summer, i had the joy of stepping into @milgardenworld.

when @alisonspada reached out about designing the launch event for ramón the tap dancing goat, i was immediately excited. allison milgard and @lejarv99 magical book series is so thoughtful and imaginative — truly a world you want to build inside of.
after my client questionnaire, i learned their shared dream: a real goat at the event. so i found a goat farm in ojai - @mamatreeojai - and we hosted the dreamiest long lunch under their mama tree. the kids even got to play with the goats.

for the table, i pulled the rolling hills from allison’s illustrations and expanded them into a custom tablecloth and made napkins with gingham and the sun illustration. the spumoni rainbow that flows through the books became kid-sized plates with the rhythm of ramon’s dancing placed in the center. i made arrangements from wildflowers from @nightheronfarm — loose, a little storybook, a little meadow.

for party favors i created custom bookmarks, illustrated cookies, stickers, and found the sweetest little bags from @pop_party_supplies via @maisonetteworld.

guests arrived to mozzarella skewers and fresh juice, and lunch was made by madeline from mama tree — including goat cheese (from the goats!) stuffed peppers. i only grabbed a few photos before tiny hands dove in, but the cheese checkerboard, the jellies, and the mini grilled cheese goats were a highlight.
there was a book reading under a canopy of bubbles and allison’s wife @heatherreid performed! we ended with crafts (bracelet-making and a goat-ears kit, naturally), and truly, it was a magical day to create.

thank you so much to @keara.maryn, the whole team at mama tree especially natalie — they were above and beyond, and i couldn’t recommend hosting an event there more. thank you to @zoyayaseka and @mataiblacklock for watching niles and helping make the event happen! @gaby.azorsky for introing me to mama tree. and last but not least the whole @1017_creative_media_group team and brian and allison — thank you for letting me play in your paradise.
