Tonight, we headed out to the @millbrookplayhouse to see @funhomemusical performed in the town where it all began. I've seen the show 3x in NYC, but this trip to central PA was perhaps the most moving show yet. The audience was... not necessarily the demographics you'd expect at a queer musical about sex, suicide and trauma. But that just made it all the more powerful: "I can see all of Pennsylvania," sings Little Alison. And there we are, a hometown united in presence. After the show, we drove home through Beech Creek, waving to "the house" and to Bruce's grave and to where he died. And to snag a line from the show -- "Now, my heart feels complete." My favorite musical, with my favorite date, in one of my favorite places. Also ice cream was involved. I am so content. #funhome #funhomemusical #centralpa #datenight

Tonight is one of those moments I'm reminded why I am consumed with love and passion for theatre. This is me standing in front of the Bechdel family home. Alison grew up in these hallways. Bruce painted and restored. Helen played piano. We were given the amazing opportunity to spend the night in this house with the Fun Home cast, and there are no words for how surreal it all was. We open Fun Home tonight at @millbrookplayhouse, in the region the family lived, with the people they knew. This experience and this breathtaking, heartbreaking, beautiful show will stay with me forever. Thank you to the director, designers, cast, and crew for Fun Home.
