Football has been a major part of my life since I was seven years old. That’s 15 years. Unfortunately, my 15-year football career came to an abrupt end this past Saturday in the Coliseum. Here are a few lessons the game instilled in me.

Football is a game of want-to and desire. The man/team that wants it more than the other, succeeds. 4th and inches, game on the line — are you gonna dominate or be dominated?

It’s also a game full of adversity. You might get your ass kicked on one play, but how will you respond the next play? Will you quit? Will you give in to pain? Hell no, keep going! When things aren’t going your way, will you find a way to overcome what you are facing? With a steadfast mind you can overcome anything.

Football taught me humility and perseverance. There are always ways to improve yourself. Stay hungry. People will always doubt your capabilities, so strive to prove them wrong. You know yourself best, so stay the course to reach your goals and achieve your dreams.

It taught me the core values of a team: Unity, Accountability, Dedication, Faith and Sacrifice. Cherish the relationships and bonds formed through hard work. Be someone whom your teammates can count on for anything. Commit to your role and perform it to the best of your ability, every single day. Establish a goal and pursue it relentlessly, striving to achieve it through daily deposits, together. What will you give up or let go so the team will be better off?

For 15 years I gave my everything to football and it gave me everything in return. Brothers, chops with the boys, valuable lessons, triumphs and heartbreaks. I did not think my football career would end in such a way, but I’m forever grateful I got to live it. This simple game has shaped me into the human I am today.

Con la maggior parte dei titolari lasciati a riposo, nella prima partita di preseason contro i Browns, i Bears hanno rimontato (ma dai!) uno svantaggio di 10-0 conquistando una vittoria per 34-10 al Soldier Field.

Il nostro coach Ben Johnson si è detto particolarmente soddisfatto della disciplina (solo due penalità per un totale di 10 yard), della fisicità e della cura dei dettagli.
