POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This #WolfWeek, I’m teaming up with @milltailmiles to share the stories of two remarkable residents of the Red Wolf Center—each carrying the legacy of a species fighting for survival. The red wolves — 2292F and 2445M are the facility’s first ever breeding pair. 2292F Born in 2019 at the @museumoflifeandscience in Durham, NC, 2292F is the daughter of 1803M—widely known as Moose. She and her sister Caroline (2293F) once lived together at the @carolina_tiger_rescue before Caroline moved to the @wolfconservationcenter and 2292F found her home at the Red Wolf Center. She’s also the cousin of 2323M, a wolf many know through their @myfahlo bracelet. 2323M fathered 11 pups with 2225F before he was tragically struck by a vehicle in September 2023. 2445M Born at the @endangeredwolfcenter in Missouri, 2445M’s brothers, 2443M and 2444M, were both released into the wild—helping restore the red wolf population. 2443M even sired pups born this year, but both brothers were later lost to vehicle strikes. Their stories highlight the fragile progress of red wolf recovery. Once roaming the entire southeastern U.S., red wolves were declared extinct in the wild by 1980. Thanks to coordinated conservation efforts, like the ones highlight here, a small population now roams free again in North Carolina—with the currrent estimate standing at 28-31. Every wolf, whether in managed care or the wild, plays a vital role in keeping this species’ story alive. 📸 Photos by @hittheroadzach taken on @canonusa 🧠 Red wolf history by @milltailmiles #RedWolves #WolfWeek #WolfConservation #WildlifeConservation #WolvesOfInstagram #SaveTheRedWolf #WolfPhotography #WolfLovers #EndangeredSpecies #WildlifePhotography
