One of the reasons I’ve come to value proper reflection is that when you first look back, it can feel like nothing major has happened. And then, when you actually look more carefully, you realize how full and eventful the year really was. So what did 2025 bring? I facilitated two week-long Degrowth Summer Schools and one 9-day Gathering for Post-Growth Educators. I taught my first Master’s-level university course on Degrowth and Systems Change. I gave more than 30 workshops and talks on degrowth, masculinity, self-management, and non-violent communication in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, and Estonia. We published a new book, Vrchol je dno: Politika pre vyčerpané lidi a planetu. I took part in three intensive courses on non-violent communication and began integrating it more fully into my everyday life. I’m looking forward to starting the certification process in the year ahead. I have also celebrated my 30th birthday with the people I love most. This milestone also made me think more deeply about my visions for the next decade of my life, both personal and professional. What does home really mean to me? Which habits and addictions do I want to grow out of? How do I keep doing what I love while staying within my capacity, without constantly stretching myself? How do I create enough quality time for friendships, for my body, and for my health? How do I stay engaged in changing the systems we live in without using that work to avoid the inner changes I’m also being called to make? Looking back, I feel deeply grateful. Grateful that I get to do work I find meaningful, and that I’m surrounded by people I love so much.

I do love New Year's especially because of this Reflection Circle, where we go one by one and listen to everyone share reflections of their year, the lessons we've learnt, tough experiences we've been through and our intentions for the year to come. The power of the circle and all the people listening to the one speaking bring up lots of emotions and vulnerabilities, sometimes even tears. This year was a little different than the previous ones: we met before the New Year's, also because some of us have kids now, and we spent the whole day together. The topics we talk about change, but I feel like our relationships deepen, and the gratitude for having these people in my life grows the more distance there is between us throughout the year. The level of safety and their support is so valuable and important for me.

2022 was quite a rollercoaster. It was a very successful year in terms of degrowth activism and if somebody told me at the beginning of 2021 what's ahead, I wouldn't have trusted them. I lead plenty of degrowth workshops, giving talks and presentations, started writing articles, got invited to discussions and podcasts, and co-created a working group on degrowth that has many plans for 2022. And yet, having too much focus on all the outer world and its structures of destruction and exploitation came with siding away from my own destructive and self-exploitative patterns, not focusing inwards often enough. This immersion often comes at a cost of not being aware of my own needs and comes at the expense of my own health, mental wellbeing, and also relationships with my loved ones. I'm constantly battling between getting completely immersed in "contributing to change and transformation that we so urgently need" and doing all it takes and, on the other hand, dreaming of withdrawing from it almost completely and simplifying my life, taking up gardening or something where one gets grounded from the abstract ideas, criticisms and the overwhelming nature of the world's crises. I do not want to resign, but also I don't believe that the full immersion and accomplishments would make me feel happy or fulfilled without inner balance. I know that finding balance won't happen in a year, that it's a constant, never-ending process, but I do hope to get better at it in 2022. And if there is one thing from 2021 that I'm the most grateful for, it's my friendships - the ones in which one can laugh, cry, be listened to, or just be silent. I rediscover their value and importance again and again. I hope to deepen them in the days to come too.
