When I was fourteen years old, my piano teacher, who was also a church member with us, asked me to play piano at a candlelight service for families who had lost children to miscarriage, stillbirth, or premature infant deaths. Never in my life- to that point- had I ever even understood or thought about that happening to someone. The song I played, although afraid to do so, was “The Battle Belongs To The Lord.” I really did not want to attend. I tried to get out of it, politely. But now I’m so thankful that I had Godly influences who cared enough about youth to allow me to use what I had- a piano- to minister. The song always stuck with me to that day whenever I heard about losing babies.
Fast forward to November 24, 2015. On that day, I had a full-term stillbirth, unexpectedly, of my daughter, Sunday Violet Thomas. I’ve never been so grateful for the grace of God. To be raised with the Word of God in my heart and on my forehead. As I was able to experience the True peace of God, I thanked Him for being my refuge. I thanked him for my parents, who loved me and took me and taught me to trust Him. I thanked God for putting others in my life who influenced me to walk a Christian life, dependent on Jesus. And I thanked God for being raised in a church family.
God began to show me that he had prepared me for that moment for years. The piano song I played at fourteen years old became alive to me. The Battle did belong to the Lord. And now I could see what that meant during a time of grieving. God knew that day, as a teenager, that one day I would lose a child of my own, and he impressed His Word on my heart.
As I began to walk in faith, I began to think about David. How God had created the Heavens and the Earth, and had created the stones David, a child, would someday, generations later, pick up to defeat Goliath. And he became a great King because he merely obeyed. God had prepared him.
I want to build a legacy of great faith for my family. I want to reach the lost. I want to help the hurting. I want the world to know that beyond loss, heartache, disappointment, failure— there is peace and deliverance. I haven’t shared much of my story with the world. But if
