Dont get me wrong, I do love a good heel or fun platform once in a while. But when 80% of the time im barefoot (including shoes), the 20% isnt gonna hurt so much.
A big part of my healing was transforming the way i view myself. From seeing myself with surface glasses to taking off those glasses and seeing whats underneath. My truth. My soul. My authenticity.
Society has trained me so well to ONLY look at the surface. And it showed up in many ways. One of them being shoes. Its not only about the looks. Looks are important yes but where is the value starting from?
It's about whats inside, and how I can nurture and love myself to allow the inside to shine .

Yesterday, I didn’t dress up.
I showed up for the day I had.

My day with drop-offs, errands, and mom-ing.
I needed to feel comfortable to move,
while feeling comfortable in my energy.

Comfortable in what I chose.
Supported by style that felt like me.

Last week, after a months-long hiatus, I returned to my shopping chats, sharing my cross-palette, low-to-high-end, modest-and-modest-minded shopping finds with 2k+ members. Even when I take breaks shopping for me, I find it SO fun to shop for others! The little lift it gives me when I find something you love — especially if it’s in a hard to find color or size — feels reminiscent of the MIMU days but also much earlier: teenage me shopping with friends and popping behind a rack lifting up an item and saying “This is so YOU, no?!”

Even while owning a fashion business I always had a bit of a complex around being “into” clothing, which I associated with being a fashionista girly girl. I was more of a Seattle-vintage-grungy-creative! My mother had a hard time shopping for me when I was young, I hated trying on clothes, and I always preferred vintage shops to mainstream stores. I dressed very funky, and enjoyed making a statement way more than wearing what was trendy or owning designer items (that last part has changed 😅).

Over time, I’ve reclaimed my love for shopping, owning the fact that it’s a necessary part of what I truly love: embracing my personal style! These days, shopping isn’t about HAVING but about connecting with myself and others, having a little pick-me-up in this often hard life, and treating myself with love. My personal spirit around shopping — which very much shaped @mimumaxi — is that we all deserve to have positive encounters with shopping . Shopping shouldn’t confirm our worst thoughts about ourselves…but lift us up.

This is the energy I bring to my shopping chat, and my hope is that I can take some of the hard parts out of shopping online to welcome some ease and fun and self-love. (And sometimes we need support! This is part of why I invite members to message me 🫶🏻)

The more meaningful, community elements of @mimumaxi are what I miss so much, and it feels good to realize that the same energy I brought there can now take new forms. Who I was through that era is now imbued into these groups, and I’m curious to see where this fun endeavor takes me ✨

“It’s one of the best strategies that Jews have developed over time…”

In this most recent episode of the Innovated Podcast, listeners can expect an insightful exploration of how academic leadership and historical reflection play a crucial role in combatting antisemitism. Host Morielle Lotan speaks with Dr. Avinoam Patt, the inaugural director of NYU’s Center for the Study of Antisemitism, as they discuss the intersection of scholarship, activism, and the digital age’s influence on hate speech. Together, they navigate the challenges of fostering resilience, education, and innovation in the face of growing antisemitic threats.

Dr. Avinoam Patt, a distinguished scholar and director of NYU’s Center for the Study of Antisemitism, brings decades of experience in Holocaust studies and modern Jewish history. With his unique perspective, Dr. Patt reflects on the October 7th events and shares how his research on Holocaust memory informs today’s efforts to fight hate. He emphasizes the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in academia and offers insights on how history can guide us in shaping a safer and more united future.

Me: 2016. @mimumaxi dress.

"Kent smoked his cigarette and went on and on about girls. All I could think about was Darcie. The way she came up to me so confidently. Rubbing her gum around her tongue and talking about murder and the unknown, only to turn on her heel and walk even more confidently away towards her own house of horrors. Her thick black hair plastered to her face in the heat of August. All I knew was that I wanted to make that sad girl dance."
