Nobody really talks about the harder parts of positive or exciting life events… it can make you feel quite alone or ‘wrong’ for having these struggles. So I’m here to change that ⭐️

Particularly as a neurodivergent student, change is daunting and puts a strain on functioning levels. New timetable, new people, new routine, more planning, more preparing, more to remember… the list goes on! This is just an example of challenges that change brings.

What have I done to help make things a little easier?

1. Prioritise setting down time- a walk in fresh air, watch my favourite tv show, play with my cat etc.
2. Take a moment to breathe- when it all gets chaotic in my brain, I remind myself to take a breath. Breathing exercises help to calm your nervous system which allows you to think clearer!
3. Don’t be so hard on yourself- I mean it! In my situation that might be because I’m too tired to make lunch for the next day, I accept that and grab a sandwich from the shop instead.

Sometimes all we need to do is give it time, things WILL get easier and this isn’t instant. Be kind to yourself, give yourself grace! Don’t beat yourself up for finding things hard as it only causes the snowball to go faster 🫶🏻

Mine haven’t helped get me where I am today, and if I’m honest I can’t even remember what they were!

A very happy and excited neli for ep2!! 🌟

I hold so much guilt around friendships, I feel almost cheeky in rebuilding them as I was a ‘bad friend’. I am so lucky that people stuck around during the hard times because no matter how much I isolated myself, I still held so much love for them in my heart, I was just engulfed by something that took over every inch of my life.
I’ve felt a need to protect people of me, however the me that was unwell is not actually me. A big part of me is my friends- they inspire me, they make life so much brighter, I am so very proud of them, and they bring me so much joy. By not recognising that I do not have to protect them from my real self, that would be hurting me.
If you feel the same, you are not alone, and you do not have to continue isolating yourself. You don’t deserve that so allow yourself to re kindle!!

My struggles destroyed my life, I had to go back to that and rebuild everything. That’s hard, there’s no instructions, and you have to handle so many emotions at the same time.

It’s amazing to be able to create the life you want, but it’s also okay to mourn the life you had. It can feel overwhelming, you also have to confront your struggles and learn to recover. And life doesn’t stop at the same time.

I want to crawl under a rock sometimes! If you feel the same, you’re not alone! Rebuilding a life my mental health destroyed is messy, I make mistakes, I find new parts to myself BUT the priority will always be keeping myself well. That has to be the foundation or else you have nothing to build on ❤️‍🩹
