It’s truly an honor to celebrate dance with those who are as passionate about dance as I am. What’s even more amazing is the love and support from my friends, family and dance family who have embarked on this dance journey with me! Happy National Dance Day! #dance #dancer #nationaldanceday

I want to take a moment and share this with all of you on behalf of the good people of @la_mezclasf in San Francisco, California.

For those of you who do not know what La Mezcla is, they are a polyrhythmic, San Francisco-based dance and music ensemble rooted in Chicana, Latina and Indigenous traditions and social justice. Founded in 2015 by Dance/USA fellow Vanessa Sanchez (@nessa_sanchez44), their work brings together Tap dance, Son Jarocho and Afro-Caribbean rhythms to bring the often unseen histories and experiences of communities of color to stages, streets and fields.Committed to using dance and music for social change, La Mezcla offers paid internships, artist mentorships, and has partnered with organizations including Lincoln Center Education, KQED Arts, and Ayudando Latinos a Soñar Farmworker Fridays to provide educational opportunities and hands-on community engagement.

The development of their newest work “Ghostly Labor,” inspired by the experiences of farm workers throughout California, has included free accessible dance classes, paid interviews, and community-based donation drives for warm clothing and necessities. “Ghostly Labor: A Dance Film” premiered in Spring 2022, with the full length theater premiere in November 2023.

Vanessa and La Mezcla need your help. I’ll step aside and let them explain in the vid and comments. 💜

Repost from @la_mezclasf
This fall, we are bringing the full-length production of PACHUQUíSMO back to the stage for two important performances. 🌹

On October 29, we will perform at SF State’s McKenna Theatre. As an SF State alumna, returning with Pachuquísmo feels especially meaningful to me.

In November, the production will travel to Madrid for its first European performances (and La Mezcla’s european DEBUT!) as part of Festival de Otoño.

To make this happen, we need your help! We are raising $5,000 to support a full remount of the show! This includes paid rehearsals, costume and technical updates, and musical preparation.

Thank you for your continued support of La Mezcla! Support us today at www.lamezclasf.net/support (or click

I have something from Mindy Copeland (@mindytaps) out in California.

She and Babs Yohai (@babycakesbabs) are hosting the Eddie Brown Tap Dance Symposium at @odcsf in San Francisco next week!

As you all know, Monday was the birthday of the master of scientific rhythm, Eddie Brown. Mindy and Babs will teach you the official Eddie Brown Chorus and show you footage of Eddie dancing it himself! You’ll also get to learn an original version of Doin’ the New Low Down, which Eddie used to audition for Bill “Bojangles” Robinson to get his big break.

Join in at odc.dance/eddiebrown next week!

As I finally catch my breath after another @sanfrantapfest, I want to take a moment to thank the incredible people who made this weekend possible 🥰

Thank you to every student who traveled near and far to take classes, perform, and share your love for tap dance with us. Your energy, dedication, and passion are what make this festival so special and seeing your happy faces make all the hard work worth it 🥹

To the parents and families who drove, flew, waited in the lobby, purchased tickets, cheered from the audience, and supported your dancers every step of the way, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Nothing would have been possible without your support🙏🏼

To the studio owners and teachers who encourage your students to continue learning, growing, and experiencing opportunities beyond their home studios, thank you for trusting us 🙌🏼

To our faculty, thank you for sharing your knowledge, artistry, stories, and passion with our students. Thank you for traveling to San Francisco, giving so generously of your time and energy, and helping create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. I am so grateful for your trust, support, and friendship 🥰

Huge thank you to @dancemissiontheater for hosting us, for removing the Marley, for being so patient and for helping make this event a reality 🫶🏼

Thanks to our musicians for making our closing show come to life so beautifully 😍

To everyone who attended performances or supported us in any way thank you for helping us build this amazing community 🎉

And most importantly, thank you to my team for having my back and helping me so much behind the scenes before during and after the festival. I couldn’t have done it without your help and I’m deeply grateful for each one of you ❤️

This was not an easy year, I was moving cross country a couple of weeks before and I was physically and emotionally exhausted during the festival, but my heart is overflowing with gratitude and happiness to see so much joy, love and community in these photos 🩵

Thank you for being part of our fourth year. We are looking forward to seeing you again next year! 🌁

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our incredible tap dance Moms like the wonderful Mindy Copeland! 🩵

We are SO excited to welcome the @mindytaps & Gabe Copeland to the faculty of @sanfrantapfest ! 🎉

From performing internationally with Rhapsody in Taps to sharing the stage with tap legends like Gregory Hines, Dianne Walker, Arthur Duncan, Fayard Nicholas, and more, the Copelands have dedicated decades to preserving, performing, and celebrating the art of tap dance.🙏🏼

Their knowledge, creativity, and love for the art form are truly special, and we can’t wait for our students to learn from them this May in San Francisco 🌁
