Looking back on one of the highlights of our MA Innovation Management Showcase.✨

Footnotes: East > West brought together Huishan Zhang, Creative Director of @huishanzhang , and cross-cultural strategist @langylangypoo ,Founder of @artouchconsulting, for a thought-provoking conversation on fashion futures, cultural identity, entrepreneurship, and creative leadership.

Together, we explored how innovation emerges through identity, cross-cultural experiences, and creative resilience. Joined by graduates from MA Innovation Management, the discussion reflected on navigating East-to-West creative industries, building values-driven careers, and shaping more human-centred futures for fashion and culture.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an engaging evening of conversation, audience Q&A, and meaningful connections. We are especially grateful to our speakers for generously sharing their insights and experiences with our community.

A special thank you to our event sponsors, @vael.matcha and @lamaritxulondon , for supporting the event and helping make the evening possible. 🍵🍰✨🌟

Last but not least, a big thanks to our very own MAIMers, event host and organisers: @kristykoala__ @jessicalixx @hazellin_01

✱Asterisk - Ways of Engaging

Thank you to everyone who joined the Imaginaries of AI and Shubidubi workshops ✨

It was such a joy to come together to play, experiment, and imagine otherwise.

At a moment when AI is entering creative work and education at speed, dominant narratives can make change seem inevitable while flattening critical reflection. Our workshops made space to look beneath the surface: to consider whose knowledge is represented or overlooked, what forms of learning and creative labour are being reshaped, and which environmental costs remain largely out of view.

Through Imaginaries of AI, we explored AI through critical play, questioning the assumptions and possible futures these systems signal.

Shubidubi opened up another space for improvisation: a chance to think and play with one another through curiosity, openness and generosity.

Thank you to everyone who made these sessions happen:
Devi Mohan, Meet Ahluwalia, Maria Paula Rodriguez, Mingming Liu, Pradipta Ray, Vrushali Landge.

And a special thank you to Alejandro Ramos Saavedra @ramos.saavedra for facilitating Shubidubi.

Here’s to more collective imagining and critical play 💫

I remembered it was 6th April, that I brought up this idea. Though I was only professionalized in film sound, and have never actually done any directing or cinematography, or even script writing, I never really doubt if I could make it.

It’s such a long process. The first thing I do everyday when I open my eyes, is to check the schedule, think of what parts I’m writing, what I’m filming or editing today. I slept with it. I lost in time, I lost in it.

On the last day, after finishing all the subtitles in the early hours of the morning, as I was compiling the final editing, placing all ten episodes, along with the opening and closing, one by one onto the timeline, I unconsciously glanced out of the window and realised that dawn was already breaking. When I clicked ’Render All‘, when I tested it on screen, right, I have that sense of everything is coming to an end.

People said loads of things about who they are, whether they find themselves or not, I think I found myself through this process.

No, I didn’t find myself because I finished the documentary. I found myself because, for the first time, I stopped abandoning myself while making something I truly loved.

Hopefully people who watch this, also feel closer to themselves, closer to these best individuals, whether they are family, friends, or just strangers.

I’m grateful that a lot of people helped me along the way, couldn’t make it without anyone of you. Especially, I wanna thank my producers @chienfei._.c , @pej_nazari , @qiaolingerh , @nathaniel_chen_66 , my co-editor @yvetttttee_x who saved my ass and my friend across the sea whom I admired the most of his talent and ability @xuzhaozheng . And many of you, I lost count. And the support from this course @maimcsm and CSM Media Department. Really, I mean it.

How do we engage with a world where technological advancement and uncertainty move faster than we can keep up?

On 18 June, *Asterisk invites you to two interactive workshops exploring the futures we imagine and the connections we create.

*Footnotes: Imaginaries for AI (2–4 pm)
What if AI answered to planetary and human needs, instead of the other way around? Through speculation, play, and collective imagination, this workshop invites participants to rethink AI not as an inevitable technology, but as infrastructure with environmental, social, and cultural consequences. Together, we’ll build alternative imaginaries for more preferable futures.
Hosted by Glassbox: @mingmliu , @sporadically_yours , @ray_perior in collaboration with @devimohan_ and @meetahluwalia

*Footnotes: Shubidubi (4–6 pm)
Meet new people and do weird things together! Inspired by @ramos.saavedra Alejandro Ramos Saavedra’s research into innovation, meaning-making, and human connection, this experimental workshop uses guided exercises to explore new ways of relating, collaborating, and creating meaning across people, contexts, and possible futures.

From imagining alternative futures to designing new forms of connection, these workshops invite curiosity, experimentation, and dialogue as tools for innovation.

🙏🦋A huge thank you to everyone who supported and attended A-mend and joined our conversation - speakers, moderators, organisers, students, alumni and everyone who came together to reflect, question, and exchange ideas. Special thanks to Samsung KX for a brilliant experience.

A-mend is an evening created by the MA Innovation Management 2026 cohort at Central Saint Martins, UAL as a space to collectively rethink how we understand and practice innovation.

Innovation is often measured by speed, disruption, and novelty. But throughout the evening, we explored a different premise: some of the most meaningful innovation work happens in the ongoing labour of repair: the often invisible work of holding systems together with care.
Across two panels, speakers shared practices that challenge dominant narratives of innovation. Holding It Together highlighted the invisible labour involved in sustaining ecosystems, institutions, and cultural spaces: work that is continuous, relational, and rarely recognised. Circular Futures designed to Regenerate explored how design, education, and environmental practices can move beyond extractive models toward regeneration, long-term stewardship, and systemic change.

What made the evening especially powerful was the sense of community and collaboration in the room - practitioners from different disciplines questioning assumptions together, and finding common ground across practices.

Repair is rarely a solitary act. It is ongoing, collaborative work, sustained through relationships, care, and shared responsibility.
And innovation is not only about what we create, but also what we choose to sustain.

Our work doesn’t end here, it begins with what we carry forward. Stay tuned for the Graduate Showcase in June! 🫀

Thank you again to everyone who made A-mend possible and MAIM team: Mo-Ling Chui, Iris Ben-David, Crystal Zhang, Elisenda Totrras, Ghadah Alharthi, Richie Manu

Only after leaving home, I truly understand the meaning of the phrase that was said on every new year‘s eve -“Happy Chinese New Year to Chinese people all over the world！！！”

Even though it has been quite some time since NYU, it feels like one day. I guess when you meet your people, it doesn’t matter how much time has passed. Grateful to London for reconnecting us✨
