This morning I shared some great picture book suggestions to #readforearthmonth and I wanted to take the opportunity to give you a peek at what I am reading this month as well. In my own learning about the climate change, I have intentionally sought out books and resources that center BIPOC and female voices. For a long time, it has been BIPOC communities, especially women that have felt the consequences of our imbalanced relationship with nature and it has been these same people who have advocated and fought for sustainable and intersectional climate action. Despite this fact, these voices continue to be marginalized in the mainstream climate justice movement. I hope you will join me in picking a book or two to learn from this month and then let it be an inspiration for intersectional environmental action. Here is my ambitious stack of books. Let me know who you are learning from this month. 🌱 Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest by Suzanne Simard - a look at how trees communicate and build community and what we can learn from them. 🌱 All We Can Save: Truth, Courage, and Solutions for the Climate Crisis Edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katherine K. Wilkinson - a compilation of essays that center BIPOC and female perspectives. A MUST READ 🌱 Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer - written by a botanist who is a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation in which she combine Indigenous plant knowledge and the tools of science. 🌱 Breaking the Mold: Changing the Face of Climate Science by Dana Alison Levy - Written for young adults, this profiles 16 people with diverse backgrounds studying the planet and improving our relationship with it’s living systems. 🌱 Earth Squad: 50 People who are Saving the Planet by Alexandra Zissu and Nhung Le - Short biographies about eco-warriors from around the world (also appropriate for YA audience) 🌱 We Have a Dream: Meet 30 Indigenous People and People of Color Protecting the Planet by Dr. Mya Rose-Craig and Sabrina Khadijah 🌱 I am also listening to The Intersectional Environmentalist by Leah Thomas (@greengirlleah)

And another beautiful review from @mini.midnight.reads 🧚🏼‍♀️🧚‍♂️🧚Posted @withregram • 🧚🏿THROUGH THE FAIRY DOOR🧚🏿 ✏Gabby Dawnay @gabdaw38 🎨Lars van de Goor @larsvandegoor & Giulia Tomai @giulia.tomai @magiccatpublishing Take that first enchanting step, towards the fairy door. Stop and notice all the tiny wonders surrounding us, the glint of dew on moss, the sunlight shining through the trees, is that... a fairy? Besplendid with exquisite gold foil cover and the captivating duel aspect illustrations, this is a magical feast for the eyes. Each scene as enchanting as the next. Not just beauty though, this book holds messages of never being to small to make a difference 'Remember, a tiny acorn can grow into a giant oak'. The planting of seeds - both figuratively and physically and spreading joy are strong themes throughout. Perfect for combating the overwhelm of environmental disaster and spreading a message of beautiful hope. "Mushrooms, moss & murmurations..." 💚🌳✨🙏✨ Posted @withrepost • @midnight.hannah.reads 🍄5 Minute Nature Stories🍄 Publisher: @magiccatpublishing Author: Gabby Dawnay Illustrator: Mona K @ghost_puff Mushrooms, moss and murmurations all in one beautifuly illustrated book. Yes I am sold. Add in the cleverly written rhythmic prose and you've pretty much got my perfect book. The book takes us through 9 seprate stories, introducing us to a different topic, each with a bonus page telling us a little more. This book is what we'd call a #livingbook in the home education world. What that means is that it's told like a story but full of learning. Did you know that a stag beetle grub spends up to 7 years eating rotten wood before digging into the ground to pupate. I did not! This book taught us that and lots more, on topics ranging from deer to photosynthesis. All told in an easy to understand way that has been enjoyed by all my children. I can't forget to give a special mention to the illustrations too. They are adorable and really make this book, if you scroll through the pictures you'll see the cutest end papers, just look at those mushrooms! If you enjoyed the review, don't forget to like, comment and follow.
