"Drawing inspiration from nature's patterns, mythological narratives, and literary worlds, I use weaving and embroidery as my primary techniques. These approaches allow me to investigate materials on my loom and give me experimental freedom. Working with the constraints of these materials brings meaning to my practice and fosters creative growth, resulting in simultaneously structured and organic textiles. In my work, I let the material live as it wants to; I simply provide it with a new means to exist." - Bhoomika Prasad @mini.pateto

Introducing Bhoomika Prasad’s @mini.pateto capstone thesis project, Woven Vibration.
Woven vibration transforms the invisible architecture of wave phenomena into tactile textile forms, bridging scientific understanding and sensory experience through the medium of fiber arts. This piece combines weaving techniques to mirror wave behaviors with reflective wire, mohair, and recycled cotton.

When data is not just numbers, charts and graphs on a page… you might just experience the human lives that they represent! We are thrilled to have presented the textiles created by Parsons Textiles MFA - Gen 6 (Class of 2025) at NEOCON 2025, at the Mart in Chicago. Our Textile Industry Partnership 2 course - taught by professor Preeti Gopinath @preethigopinathnyc - was an amazing collaboration with Aquafil and the United Nations International Organization for Migration (UN IOM), where our MFA Textiles students visualized migration data through textiles made from Aquafil’s Econyl yarn (100% regenerated nylon). The work is incredibly beautiful and meaningful, and we are so happy that it was well received at NEOCON this year. 3 of our students - Jing @pj322zzz , Yichen @panpanyichen and Rachel @rachel.dana were selected by Aquafil to attend the show in person. #textiles #parsonsproud @thenewschool @parsonsschoolofdesign @econyl.design @econylbrand #sustainability #data #datavisualization @unmigration @usaforiom @dtm_iom

We visited #PassagePatterns yesterday, an exhibition by @parsonstextilesmfa in collaboration with @unmigration (UK) and @econylbrand, and powered by art, technology, and information. The show transforms hard data into woven narratives, literally! From migration flows in the Darién Gap to child protection risks in Thailand, post-flood displacement in Pakistan, climate stress on vegetation in Iraq, and internal mobility in Ukraine, each piece turns data into something you can feel.

It was especially meaningful to us. We’ve worked with IOM’s @dtm_iom team for years, so we’ve seen firsthand how powerful this kind of data can be when it’s communicated well. These projects remind us that statistics are never just numbers, they’re stories. Of movement. Of resilience. Of systems that need to change.

Creative data storytelling like this matters. It invites empathy, sparks curiosity, and reaches people who might never open a traditional report. What stood out most was the bold mix of data, design, and technology, proving that when these tools are used with intention, they can make even the most complex issues resonate on a deeply human level.

Swipe to see the exhibition through our lens.

Our talented Gen 6 students will graduate next week. They have created fantastic textiles which will make you pause and consider existence, wellbeing, socio-cultural constructs and our relationship to the land, rivers, plants and the material world. Come meet the artists/ designers and see their capstone thesis projects which represent how elemental textiles are to the human experience.
