Rest in Peace Minika ❤️ It took me so long to figure out what to say, and I’m still learning how I process life as it happens, but I realized I just wanted to let you know how much you meant to me, how much you mattered. Even though we only worked together for a couple of months, I still think about you regularly. You profoundly impacted me when I was but a college student with a big dream, so much so that I typed up a whole document in my notes about it. Life has gotten so hard at times; I’ve moved to Detroit, I’ve dreamt up even bigger dreams to make nutritious foods and the foods I grew up eating accessible to the community. The battle sometimes feels so lonely, but I always remember your smile when we were working on the KOllision fashion show. I was so stressed because I felt the goals set were too big. But you were beaming because you truly felt that even if we didn’t reach it at least we tried and even 10% there was better than not trying at all. I remember how you worked tirelessly to come up with creative ideas that repurposed materials, uplifted other designers, and raised money for organizations you cared about. You made something that had so many layers, so much care put into empowering and giving, might I say a seemingly impossible project, feel effortless, intuitive, and possible. I hope you get this message somehow and that you are happy and well. I still haven’t given up on fashion and making sure my work leaves the world a better place. Thank you Minika ❤️

Looking back to my very first solo show in June of 2021 at @triangleloft … it’s important to reflect on the journey, especially amidst all the chaos of forward momentum. I’m incredibly grateful for my community, support and the love my work has been given these last few years. Thanks to @hideki.aono.media @bec.ome and @manonceartist for the shots from this show.

BRIGHT FUTURE x KOVASKY

“Based on the metaphor of the internal feeling of loneliness evolving into tranquil solidarity. Life on the inside exaggerated on the outside.”

KOVASKY is a versatile clothing line that is thoughtfully constructed with sustainable, curve enhancing technology, and made to elevate and empower women. Comfortable for day or night, this collection of power looks is essential, timeless, and can be styled with ease. A woman wearing KOVASKY feels confident to be herself and fearlessly expresses her internal emotions with the world (and this is shown by Bright Future’s use of color & surrealistic backgrounds).

Creative direction and Bright Future concept developed by @oxsun_nyc @zieflowerrr @the.ineffable.sage

@kovaskynyc designed by beloved NYC designer @minikako ❤️

Today is Christmas Eve. I want to take a moment to write to you.

I still remember the day you reached out to me and asked, “Hi Ashley, would you like to be a featured artist at my next fashion show? Do art and design on my garment, and the final work will be on the runway!”

I had tons of deadlines at that time, but I still said YES right away.

It was my first time designing an outfit. The first time sewing.

My team and I went to fashion stores to shop for materials, spent a few nights working on it, tested structures and materials, etc. It was fun.

Interviewing models was fun. The photoshoot was fun. The runway was SO fun.

It was so enjoyable and became one of my best memories in NYC. Thank you for inviting me to design and walk this runway together.

R.I.P, my dear friend @minikako
I still can’t believe you have left us. But you will always be loved and remembered. I wish you are still doing your favorite design in heaven. ❤️
