Arts Aneducation at a Public University on Shawnee Land Today is the culminating event, open to members of our @theohiostateaaep community, for the class ArtEd 7701: Contemporary Theory & Arts Education in which we will be making & thinking together about what it means to learn from @documenta14 & enact @aneducation_documenta14 here at This* Ohio State University (the ancestral & contemporary lands of the Shawnee, Wyandotte, Miami & many other Indigenous nations) in dialogue with the transforming work of Shawnee poet @lauralouiseda, recently on view in the exhibition 'Laura Da': Why Lazarus' at @urbanartsspace (organized by @roffletcher @lauralouiseda @mchaatsmith & @elissawashuta), with design by @vier5_paris). #artsaneducation #publicuniversity #shawneeland #documenta14 #aneducation #laurada

I can't tell you why I was reminded of the durational performance 'Dynamis' (2017) by @georgiasagri at @documenta14 today. I was in Athens from June 8 to 13, 2017, timing my visit to coincide with the fanfare of the opening in Kassel as a minor refusal & it was during the period when I was posting every day on my @minusplato blog. I have a distinct memory of the night of June 9, writing into the night in my tiny hotel room & aiming to stop at midnight to head to Omonoia Square to experience Sagri's work, but I was simply too tired & my body failed me & so I went to sleep instead. Looking back now, all these years later & with so much of my work grounded by d14 as an unfinished exhibition, I feel like missing 'Dynamis' in action was one of those experiences that will stay with me & will be a constant reminder of how the connection between body, place & time will always be central to my life & work. Thank you @georgiasagri - an artist who goes so hard & fast, & who's work takes all there is & all we are along with her to the next level! #georgiasagri #dynamis #documenta14

As Fall finally arrives in Ohio, I am delighted to announce the publication of 'Ruderal Society. Excavating a Garden. Four Poems by Laura Da'. Ohio Edition. (2025) a beautiful selection of photographs by VIER5 documenting the work by late Austrian artist Lois Weinberger created for documenta 14 in Kassel, accompanied by four poems by Shawnee poet Laura Da' from her 2025 collection 'Severalty', published by the University of Arizona Press. The book accompanies the exhibition 'Laura Da': Why Lazarus' at the Urban Arts Space' in the Lazarus Building in downtown Columbus, which I organized with Da', Marti Chaatsmith & Elissa Washuta, with posters designed by VIER5. Copies of the book will be available for free only in the gallery space during the run of the exhibition. I want to extend my thanks Franziska Weinberger for her support for this project, to Achim Reichert, formerly of VIER5, for important editing help & to Laura Da' for her generosity & openness to this way of sharing her work with the world. A special thanks to Marco Fielder of VIER5 for trusting me with this project that adds to the two other VIER5 publications in Weinberger's documenta 14 work 'Debris Field'. I'm so proud that we could make this happen here in Ohio where I have tried to keep the spirit & ongoing resonances of documenta 14 alive & well! Footnotes to ‘Companion, Peace’ for a Guest On Tuesday I will be a guest in my @theohiostateaaep colleague Beth Link's (@b.linx) class to talk about my work in art education/arts aneducation. By way of explaining how I try to live in this first-draft world though my blog & platform @minusplato, I will be sharing a series of footnotes I made to my minor contribution to 'Experiments in Art Research: How Do We Live Questions Through Art?' edited by Sarah Travis, Azlan Guttenberg Smith, Catalina Hernández-Cabal, & Jorge Lucero (@conceptualartandteaching). Called 'Companion, Peace' it was an immediate response to a letter written from Angela Baldus to Paulina Camacho Valencia (@paucamval) & it bridged the typewriter/postal art of German artist Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt with the poetry of Shawnee poet Laura Da' (@lauralouiseda). I wrote these footnotes for Angela at a moment of personal & political crisis, when I had ostensibly ended @minusplato after 10 years in 2022. I didn't know back then that I would restart @minusplato in December 2024 as part of a multi-year project called 'A Curriculum of Imposters (Here & Now, There & Then, On & On)'. To find the footnotes & follow their path, visit the @minusplato post called 'Everything is Signed by Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt' from October 21, 2021 (link in first comment below) I share them here as a reminder to myself & others that the academic world needs to be intentionally exceeded by the insistent abundance of art & life (see the poetry collection 'Trickster Academy', by Jenny L. Davis, @chickashajenny). #ruthwolfrehfeldt #laurada #jennyldavis #minusplato #acurriculumofimposters

In the sixth & final episode of RE:STTLMNT RADIO, you will hear clips from an episode of my earlier radio show 'dear fellow settler colonizer,' from August 2021, when I visited Pounds House in Central Park, Plymouth, UK - the planned site of the STTLMNT (@sttlmnt_indigenous) residency, before COVID-19 transformed it into an online project. You will also hear from two STTLMNT projects - 'Blood Memory' (@bloodmemory_xr) by Stina Hamlin & Jade Begay with an extended contribution by STTLMNT concept artist Cannupa Hanska Luger & 'Indigenous Access Media' by sisters Nani Chacon (@nanibah) & Autumn Chacon. These projects are channeled through conversations by the artists as part of @abladeofgrassorg & @brokenboxespodcast. Finally, we end with the music of Raven Chacon (@ravenchcn) that opens the STTLMNT film by Razelle Benally/Red Brigades Films. Link in bio What is RE:STTLMNT RADIO? Back in January 2021, I aired the first episode of my @minusplato radio show 'dear fellow settler colonizer,' on @verge.fm. For the first 5 episodes, I was joined in conversation with artist Cannupa Hanska Luger (@cannupahanskal), who was at the time the concept artist for STTLMNT: Indigenous Digital Occupation (@sttlmnt_indigenous). As part of Art Education 5367: Native American Arts, Education & Representations, an asynchronous online class created by my @theohiostateaaep colleague, mentor & friend Christine Ballengee-Morris (@morris.390), I have made RE:STTLMNT RADIO which will compromise 6 episodes - one for each weekly module of the course - released every Friday. The aim of RE:STTLMNT RADIO is to return to the STTLMNT project, via my conversations with Cannupa Hanska Luger for 'dear fellow settler colonizer,' as well as the amazing artistic projects & films (directed by Razelle Benally/Red Brigade Films (@razellebenally/ @red_brigade_films), & connect the transforming work of contemporary Indigenous artists as a supplement to Christine's course. This fifth episode of RE:STTLMNT RADIO returns to a conversation between STTLMNT concept artist Cannupa Hanska Luger (@cannupahanska) in dialogue with STTLMNT artist & filmmaker Razelle Bennally (@razellebenally) of Red Brigade Films (@red_brigade_films), recorded for the fifth episode of 'dear fellow settler colonizer,' back in May 2021. The episode accompanies the fifth module of the class 'Native American Arts, Education & Representations', focused on issues of stereotyping of Native American culture by settlers & so it felt fitting to counter this phenomenon by revisiting this conversation at the heart of an Indigenous-led STTLMNT project. A special shout out to Ginger Dunnill (@awapuhilah) for making this conversation happen, as producer of the STTLMNT project & creator of the Broken Boxes Podcast (@brokenboxespodcast) Link in bio What is RE:STTLMNT RADIO? I share it today because it contains many of the themes & ideas that continue to sustain my work in arts aneducation at a land-grab university aka This* Ohio State University. To be continued... You can read the original post here & in the link in my bio: https://minusplato.com/2020/05/the-missing-link.html Special thanks to @pelagie_gbaguidi whose work has sustained & inspired me over the years! #whisperintoahole #likewindonrushes #landgrabuniversities #pélagiegbaguidi
