More than honored to have attended yesterday’s ceremony for the Brookline Housing Authority’s Colonel Floyd redevelopment project! The building will be completely FOSSIL-FUEL FREE! This project was made possible by legislation passed in the State House, led by our very own State Rep, @tommyvitolo!

If you know me, you know how passionate I am in creating more housing through a climate-friendly lens. In the state, there’s a limited number of housing options and when an elder loses their home, it’s scary to find alternatives. There’s usually lotteries or waitlists that ultimately create tons of anxiety. Additionally, we forget a crucial aspect of climate change and justice is ensuring housing developments for our most vulnerable communities are eco safe and clean. I applaud #Brookline Housing Authority for this great venture and I hope that more are constructed in town in the near future!

Projects like these need to become the standard practice. Orgs like @brookline_cdc, which I’m on the board for, are hoping to introduce more eco friendly homes in the near future while transforming our current properties into more eco-friendly spaces. Housing Justice and Climate Justice are extremely intertwined. I’ll end this by praising @michaelalperin ‘s dedication to bringing equity and opportunity to the BHA residents. From Homeownership programs to financial trainings, he, along with Danielle Mendola, Jacqueline Lara, and countless BHA staffers, the culture at these BHA properties is shifting to one of care and development. As a tenant at a BHA property, I truly feel seen and respected. May this be a first step to a more prosperous future.
