A big thank you to everyone who came out to “BETWEEN STATES” last weekend! 🙌

Thanks to funding from the @caribbeanculturefund and @hawthorndenfoundation, we were able to host our inaugural PREE Artist Residency in April! We were thrilled to welcome Portia Surbran @thelittlenameless.art to Jamaica, to be in residence with ceramist Jag Mehta @jagmehtaceramics. This residency marked Subran’s foray into the medium of clay.

Co-produced with @ednamanleycollege with curatorial direction from @_narrativecuratorial, this open studio exhibition was the outcome of the residency: a dialogue in ink and clay between both artists’ work.

@badartgalleryja was there with live screen printing and @thestamma brought the sonic vibes! We also had a wonderful panel discussion on artist residencies and their role in shaping contemporary art practice.

Gratitude to everyone who made this exhibition possible 🙏 @miriamhindssmith, @_kerrychen, @jessicaknightwrites, @anniepaulish, @watchensee, @thecatladywrites, @wordfall, @emcvpasva, @joshuasolas, @thestamma, @thelittlenameless.art, @jagmehtaceramics

✨ Doctors of Dance ✨
Three visionary movers. Three philosophies of freedom.

💫 Dr. LAntoinette Stines — creator of L’Antech®, blending ancestral Caribbean movement with contemporary form.
🔥 Dr. Thomas “Talawa” Prestø — founder of Talawa Technique™, codifying African and Caribbean aesthetics for a global stage.
⚓ Dr. John Hunte — champion of the Barbados Landship, where rhythm, ritual, and resistance steer a nation’s story.

Together, they remind us that Caribbean dance is not just choreography — it’s knowledge in motion.

✨ Doctors of Dance ✨
We begin our series celebrating the brilliant minds and moving bodies that have shaped Caribbean dance scholarship and performance.

First up: Dr. LAntoinette Stines — choreographer, philosopher, and founder of L’Acadco: A United Caribbean Dance Force. Her groundbreaking concept of L’Antech® fuses traditional Caribbean movement, contemporary dance, and the ancestral, redefining how we understand the dancing body as archive and nation.

🩰💫 Dr. Stines reminds us that Caribbean dance is not just movement — it is memory, philosophy, and power in motion.
