i can't stop thinking about these words from @hananrights

it's an emotion i've felt for a long time but didn't quite know how to share with others. when i tried some years ago, it was met with a lot of confusion, denial and even hostility. the idea that sound could be a form of violence, violating the senses to such a degree that it leaves you disoriented, overloaded, exhausted. how we've made it sort of a ritualistic practice, a form of release, a commodity and a sport.

@hananrights asks a very innocent question, how could any human recognize the uplifting nature of sound on our bodies, and turn this into a tool for violence? if you thought of the IOF or your average noise making artist, you'd be right in both instances. i respect artists who make an effort to clearly state what their purpose is and don't make noise just for the sake of it, or worse, to hurt innocent people. nothing could be clearer than the words @bastard_noise_skull_servant
chose to emblazon on his gear the night i saw him at saint vitus, 'this machine kills fascists.'

i made a drawing at the height of a sensory meltdown that i had earlier this year. trying to illustrate what was causing me to brace to the point of pain, lose sleep, go on autopilot and dissociate just to get through the day. playing loud music was my mother's way of getting back at the people who live above us. of course, these people were doing nothing intentionally, but years of living under people who did in fact hate us and had no regard for the others around them had driven her to this vindictive, obsessive-compulsive state of mind.

all it did was make me feel like my mind and body were collapsing in on themselves. it felt easier to shut down since leaving wasn't an option. i still struggle to find peace and quiet sometimes, but it's all i want for my friend khalil and his family, and all oppressed people.

can't thank @khalilsfriends enough for always sharing these insightful posts that really capture the humanity and inner life of people under siege. we have some new merch on my fourthwall site that we're selling to help our friend, if not to rebuild, then to relocate until he and his family can return.

my in disgust collection, and a bio i found that i think captures their sound really well. this is why they're my favorite grindviolence band 🖤 matt's vocals and artistic vision are unmatched.

im forever grateful for people like @joyinthefaceofdeath
who introduced me to this scene and made me realize that i wasn't alone. and for not being afraid to call out the fuckin oogles.

as many of you know, i don't shy away from loud bands, whether it's primitive man or sulfuric cautery i love a band that can bludgeon you with walls of sound 🔊

BBI was my first introduction to using board audio, and since then i've been obsessed with recording live audio for all my videos, to recreate the feeling of being at a show and having all the vocals and riffs and blasts as they were meant to be heard. i've gotten countless compliments on my channel because of it

i don't have any formal training with mixing/mastering audio and tend to do everything by ear. the ziplock set was only my 2nd attempt at working with stems from scratch, and i've been enjoying learning new things as i go along

im so happy that so many of you have reached out about wanting to put out live releases from the audio i recorded at mr. beery's, it really means a lot as someone who incessantly searched for live physical releases from my favorite grindviolence band, in disgust (vs godstomper and @ gilman), over a decade ago

i was lucky enough to find someone like @alexperagine to work on a couple sets, and jackson @kihclavok was kind enough to offer to work on some of them as well 🖤

but i wanted to take this opportunity to work on a few of the sets myself, to make the workload a bit easier between the three of us. and because im just passionate about grind and wanted to use some of my own knowledge and experience to add my own personal touch to the live audio

the problem is, i got ahead of myself. i didn't pace myself, worked on 2-3 videos a week, at high volumes with headphones on. unfortunately the volume was a bit too loud and it partially damaged my hearing, particularly on the last set that i worked on. as im learning more about how to use compressors, plugins etc. i put way too much stress on my ears without even realizing it

the great thing is that our bodies can bounce back no matter how much we abuse and neglect them. hopefully the damage is temporary, but just to err on the side of caution i won't be posting the sets as often as i have been. i'll be lucky if i can manage one per month. but they'll be up eventually.

thanks for your patience, understanding and support.
