Most young actors dream of winning an Oscar. It’s an international reference point of success in our industry. For a number of years I’ve tried to wean myself off having that as a barometer of my own talent, artistry and contribution to storytelling, but regardless of if I ever do hold a statuette, being invited to be a member of the academy is an honour and a privilege, I can’t fully describe. I am so grateful to @theacademy, whoever nominated me and whoever co-signed my membership. A whole me, some random kid born on an estate in North London who didn’t want a proper job and thought acting was just pretending to do lots of different jobs instead.

‘His House’ and ‘My Father’s Shadow’ are two of some of the projects I am most proud of. It was a blessing to be able to share those stories with the world and I’m eternally grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such wonderful collaborators and humans in doing so.

Aside from my own invitation, my heart skipped several beats seeing the company I’m keeping in this year’s intake. To get to share this moment with @akinoladaviesjr, @pc_williams, @shunika.terry and a plethora of other artists I respect and cherish, made today even more beautiful.

This is truly such an honour, but my career took a village and I’ll continue to take this village with me wherever the journey leads.

Life times are stitched together with golden threads. Today was one of those days where individual stories became part of a bigger tapestry. I met someone from my past and someone with a shared love and friendship connection. I got to spend time with incredible women and had time to talk to the plants. And as I turned out the light tonight I felt the joy of being part of something that really counts.

Tomorrow 9-5 the kettle will be on, swing by and be part of something special at @atrium.london
