🧕🏾 👸🏽👩🏼‍🔬Forgotten Women Blog Tour 🧑🏿‍🦱👩🏻‍🎓👩🏾‍🎨 Abbie's Review
(AD PR Product)
Author: Zing Tsjeng @miss_zing
Publisher: @octopus_books_ Imprint: @brazen.books

I have been loving reading this brilliant book. Discovering more about the amazing women I'd already heard of, and the many, many more that I hadn't. This is the perfect book to dive into for Women's History Month, and essential reading for everyone.

Zing Tsjeng has written a wonderful insight into each incredible woman in just a few pages. I really liked the seven categories the book was organised into; I enjoyed them all and think that "Campaigners" and "Trailblazers" were my favourite sections. This makes Forgotten Women ideal to dip in and out of, or to devour in chunks - it's up to you!

I felt joy discovering the brilliance of these women, along with sadness that they had been forgotten, and the conviction that we can make sure that they don't remain so.

I love books that lead onto books, and I have so many memoirs and autobiographies from this, as well as works by the writers and poets included, to add to my wishlist. I've even jotted down names of women whose stories I think would be great historical fiction novels! Who wouldn't want to read a novel about Christina of Sweden, the King who was bisexual, liked to dress as a man, and who abdicated her throne to be truly free? Or Ching Shi, the Chinese female "Buccaneer"?

Please read this fantastic book and recommend it to all of your friends and family - both male and female. For, as Everyday Sexism author Laura Bates said, "You can't achieve...a culture shift from a whole society without half of that society on board."

👩🏿‍🚀Don't forget to check out the other stops on the Blog Tour!

*Thank you to @RandomTTours @miss_zing @octopus_books_ and @brazen.books for the gifted review copy.

𝒩𝐸𝒲 𝐹𝐸𝒜𝒯𝒰𝑅𝐸! Zing Tsjeng, Editor-in-Chief of @VICE, explores the practice of Persian-French artist Chalisée Naamani. Working primarily in photography and textiles, Naamani creates densely layered installations with items such as jackets, knock-off bags, hangers, and suitcases to explore how clothing functions as a vector for memory and a product of globalization. The items of clothing in Naamani’s installations appear to be recently vacated by their wearers, creating what Tsjeng calls “ghosts with no corporeal form.”

This feature is the sixth and final installment of our collaboration with @liste_art_fair_basel on their Writers’ Picks series.

The first of its kind, EAST SIDE VOICES is a collection of essays and poetry celebrating East and Southeast Asian voices in the UK.

Navigating points of assimilation and difference, it explores a wide range of experiences within the #ESEA diaspora: from Burmese trans identities, the importance of choosing a name, and love expressed through acts of service, to the complexities of growing up mixed race in a white family.

It examines the fetishisation of Asian women and the racism inflicted on #ESEA communities in the wake of Covid. Romalyn Ante, a Filipino NHS nurse and poet, asks: "Why is so very little known about our community? Especially when this country relies so heavily on us?”

Edited by @hels_lee, founder of the @eastsidevoices salon, whose essay explores immigration as an act of creativity.

Stay tuned for a BTB Presents with @naomishimada reading a love letter to her Japanese grandmother, 'Ode to Obaa-chan'.

Published by @Sceptrebooks on 20th January, it features contributions from @gemmachan, @miss_zing, @clairekohda, @strangelikeness, @amy__poon, @thats.so.june, @_katieleung_, @annasulan, @rowanhisa, @tash.aw and @ladybalisong, amongst others.

Representation matters, if we don’t do it ourselves, no one else will #zingtsjeng #crazybritasian

As one of the few ESEA writers in UK journalism she’s been an important voice for the community and getting our stories out there. For that I’m grateful to have all the way from the United Zingdom, the very accomplished Queen herself Vice UK’s @miss_zing ! We talk about what it was like growing up in a transforming Singapore, expectations vs reality of moving to the UK, her road to journalism, some of her breakthrough articles and more! Not only do I learn a lot but there's a lot that the Brits can learn from Singapore too, especially when it comes to food!
————————————————————
At the time of recording the Stop ESEA Hate Fund had only just been announced the day before, so we talk about the process of how it all happened and the amazing response it's gotten thus far! Be sure to continue supporting! Link in bio.

For this ep I had some help from my friend @sunday.school who is also supporting the @communitea.fund made up of creatives combining 55 pieces of their artwork prints to sell and raise funds to save the @thelondonccc
