I never knew about Effective Altruism (EA) principles until last year, when a friend introduced me to the EA Introductory Fellowship. I enrolled in the virtual 8-week fellowship, which featured intensive classes across several learning modules. These sessions exposed me to key EA principles such as cost-effectiveness for social good, existential risks, AI governance, among others.

The learning outcomes from the fellowship reshaped my perspective on the business of social good and how donations can be used to save lives through the most cost-effective means.

This year, I was thrilled to receive the announcement of the EAGx Nigeria 2025 Conference. Participating in what became my first EA Global conference was truly a milestone. I felt the energy, enthusiasm, and passion as I met like-minded EA fellows, mentors, industry experts, and organizations working globally to promote EA principles.

During the 3-day conference, I took part in several side events and gained numerous insights. I also had the opportunity to connect with EA members from over 15 countries. One highlight for me was the use of the Swapcard platform, which helped participants stay informed about sessions, speakers, and venues throughout the event.

Some of my key takeaways include:
• Understanding the principles of effective altruism, particularly scope sensitivity—making decisions that maximize social impact.
• Developing a personal theory of change to better utilize time and improve lives.
• Learning how to donate effectively, even amidst uncertainty.
• Advancing vaccine uptake in communities to combat infectious diseases and future pandemics.
• Advocating for intentional policy decisions around research and funding for both infectious and non-communicable diseases in Africa.
• Leveraging data to better understand and respond to real-world challenges.
• Evaluating existing initiatives to avoid duplication of efforts.

It was an insightful and empowering experience, with rich networking opportunities. I had the chance to meet professionals from 1Day Sooner, the Tech Governance Project, One Health Development Initiative, Lafiya Nigeria, and many others.

It was a pleasure facilitating a session on entrepreneurial thinking during the employability training for job seekers and graduates, organized by Mlmchaser Limited with Support from the Germany embassy in Nigeria.

I shared key insights on the growing importance of entrepreneurial thinking in today’s workforce—especially in light of rapid technological advancements. Embracing this mindset not only fosters innovation but also enhances individual performance and excellence in executing tasks and responsibilities.

Thank you to the organizers and all the brilliant participants for the engaging conversations and thoughtful reflections. I’m excited to see how these emerging talents apply an entrepreneurial mindset to create impact in their careers and communities.

Let’s continue to build a future-ready workforce—driven by innovation, agility, and purpose.

On the Occasion of 2024 World Mental Health Day

I was present alongside other CSOs, the private sector, Government agencies at the National Suicide Prevention Conference tagged Decriminalizing suicide attempt in Nigeria.

I spoke on the need for the Government to provide safe spaces for young people aimed at stimulating mental health well-being.

More importantly, we need to join hands to Decriminalizing suicide attempt towards provision of social support services for victims as an alternatives for prosecution.

Today we began a 3 day community mobilization outreach to educate Nigerians at the household level on the health risks of consuming sugary drinks, and to canvass their support for the use of a sugary drink tax to fund treatment for diabetes patients.

Nigeria is the world's 7th highest consumer of soft drinks, nearly 40 millions litres of soft drinks sold each year.

Amazingly, 11.2 million Nigerians have diabetes leading which makes us number 1 with diabetes prevalence in Africa.
