Two pictures taken at @spaceuniversity- one taken today & the other in April 2012- 8 years apart. - - Going to be at @spaceuniversity for the next few days working on a number of things, including giving a lecture to the Masters Students on #spaceadventures in #sciencecommunication (aka #spaceinsociety). - - Although I’ve been involved for a number of summers on their annual Space Studies Programmes across the world, this is only my second visit to the main campus in #Strasbourg. My first visit was in 2012 (see my post from Dec 19th), when the big #space quest began. It’s nice to reflect on everything that’s happened since that Yuri’s night 8 years ago. - - Small steps, but getting there. Slowly, but surely. - - - -——————————————————————— - ‘Dream Big- an Irishwoman’s Space Odyssey’ from @mercierpressbooks out March 2020. So proud to be the @irishgirlguides Ambassador on the year that they decide to walk to the #Moon, to raise much needed funds for their new centre! - - The 11000 members will collectively walk 363104 kms (the distance between Earth & the Moon) raising €1 per km in sponsored walks and outdoor activities and will log it all on a specially designed app, #MishonMoon. - - The campaign officially launched yesterday at @dunsinkobservatory with app creator Brendan Morrissey with @dias_dublin’s @petertgallagher. On World Thinking Day, which was apt. - - Everyone can get involved and contribute their kms to the 363,104kms challenge or you can donate directly on their website to the appeal - - Let’s get active & get walking to the #Moon - Photo Credit: Robbie Reynolds (2020). - #girlsinSTEM #SpaceInSociety #space #girlguideswalktothemoon #mishonmoon #spaceadventures #earth #palebluedot #igg #womeninSTEM #MOON #spacetravel #wtd #worldthinkingday2020

#4x4 #4wd #iceland #arctictrucks #offroad #offroad4x4 #missioncontrol #extremeoffroad #extreme #marsrover #toyotalandcruiser #space #expedition #mars #ijsland

It’s #throwbackthursday of the last decade & this week, I found a ton of pics from 7 years ago when I made my first trip to @spaceuniversity. - - Nathan Wong arranges a Tweetup celebrating #yurisnight & the #MarsExplore conference happening that week. I knew no-one. It was my first venture into the space community. - - I remember that Nathan arranged a call with @billnye. Half of the spacetweeos didn’t know who he was, as he hadn’t yet made his impact in Europe. @marswalkr told us about the #Mars500 mission that had recently ended, he was so friendly and approachable and passionate about the experience. I hadn’t realised then that @romain_charles was one of his crew mates, who I had yet to meet. I also hadn’t realised that I met @ryinspace that day too! Or Pete Worden, now of @breakthrough, then still at @nasaames. And it was the first time that I had heard about the Space Studies Programme, which in 2012 was held in Florida. I wanted to go so badly, but assumed that I would never be able to afford such a trip. - - It was also the first time meeting @profchriswelch & @travelsinorbit. And my fellow twitterers too. Who knew that our paths would cross many times in the future? - - I do remember sitting in on the #Mars explore conference, hearing presentations from @nasa, @esa & lots of industries, talking about returning to the #Moon and eventually getting a human mission to #Mars. - - It was the beginning of everything. I knew no-one but just started walking forward. One small step every day, to bring me closer in realising - vast space quest. What a decade. - - #earth #palebluedot #dreambig #getniamhtospace #lovelife #spacetravel #ireland #dublin #lovemyjob #spaceinsociety #walkingslowlytowardsspacd

Sharing some photos from our #SANDE field mission 2019. Our scientists and engineers spent a month in Iceland, evaluating the capability and efficiency of rover-based autonomous terrain analysis, and human analysis of UAS images for rover navigation. To do this, we tested various scenarios and using a combination of imagery from cameras on the rover and a drone, in conjunction with our #ASAS technology! We’ll be returning back in 2020 🚀

I’m especially proud to be involved in activities that share the human message of #space, particularly those who totally get the vital message of perspective & perception & the urgency for us to see the bigger picture. My quest to get to space is to challenge the boundaries that we set ourselves, and to embrace how vulnerable we are in the absence of Earth. - - - @bressie invited me chat about my passion and life quest as part of his podcast series, ‘Where is my mind’ alongside the modest & hugely inspiring @canadianspacesociety astronaut Robert Thirsk. - - He & producer @ciaraoconnorwalsh have done a super job in taking that vital message of perspective & weaving it into a bigger mindfulness conversation. For me, everything I do is about connecting with people who think that #space isn’t theirs, who believe it to be exclusive to the science & technology profession alone. Clearly that’s not true and connecting #space with mindfulness is exactly where these topics need to be discussed. - - Bravo, Bressie & Ciara on a really great podcast & series, that is sharp, smart and deeply human. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a little part of the magic of your message. And that you completely get it. 👏🏻👏🏻👩🏻‍🚀🌏✊ - Check out the episode here: https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/where-is-my-mind/id1470956619?i=1000447208482 - Oh & Tks to @paulamcloughlin1 for the intros 🙏🏻🙏🏻 - #earth #palebluedot #humanity #perspective #perception #space #earthrise #apollo50 #getniamhtospace #ireland #moonlandings #artist.
