“Heard It Before” is a total lightning bolt of energy. Mixed by industry veteran Derek Birkett, the song perfectly blends a chaotic punk edge with a raw, stormy atmosphere that consumes you totally and let’s float in it energy. One thing that makes me love the song is how it sounds. It gives you that feel of a group of musicians playing in a cramped room together, reacting completely in the moment without overthinking a single thing.

The keen reader might remember a previous feature about Tabitha Zu, a nearly forgotten alternative rock outfit that enjoyed a wave of success in the early ‘90s.

We particularly loved writing about the project and its reissues, as it felt like discovering an ancient musical treasure, it felt like stepping back in time into a vintage, gritty London.

There’s probably a strong nostalgic factor at play here, perhaps even some anemoia (given that the author of this article was born after the fact). Yet, we can’t help ourselves, and we feel strongly drawn to Tabitha Zu’s music.

Back in the early ’90s, the UK alternative underground thrived on unpredictability, noise, and emotion, and few bands captured that spirit quite like Tabitha Zu. With the long-awaited digital release of “Heard It Before” through Eira Records, a new generation finally gets access to one of the band’s most explosive early statements. Originally released in 1991 as a limited split 7-inch with Homage Freaks, the single arrives decades later without losing any of its bite. Instead of sounding dated, it feels remarkably fresh — a reminder that sincerity and intensity never go out of style. #Click on the link in our bio to read more.

Tabitha Zu never fit comfortably inside the polished expectations of the early 1990s music industry. Emerging from London’s alternative underground, the band built its identity around emotional volatility, jagged energy, and an instinctive refusal to dilute its sound for accessibility. Decades later, the digital release of “Heard It Before” restores an essential piece of that history, allowing a new generation to experience a track that once burned brightly through the UK indie scene before nearly disappearing into obscurity.

Emerging once again from the shadows of the UK’s early ’90s alternative underground, Tabitha Zu return with the long-overdue digital release of “Heard It Before,” and the track feels every bit as urgent and uncompromising as it must have sounded back in 1991. Originally issued as a limited split 7-inch alongside Homage Freaks, the single now arrives through Eira Records with its raw power fully intact. #Click on the link in our bio

Tabitha Zu’s “Heard It Before” finally arrives on digital platforms with the kind of impact that many modern reissues struggle to achieve. Originally released in 1991 as a limited split 7-inch with fellow TLF label act Homage Freaks, the single returns not as a nostalgic artefact, but as a genuinely vital piece of British alternative music history. More than three decades after its debut, the track still sounds uncompromising, immediate and emotionally charged. #Visit nuvapulse.com to read more

out today in all the usual digi places - Tabitha Zu - Heard It Before.

this is the first record i was on in 1992 - drums & electric guitar! Tabitha Zu were formed in Newark, Nottinghamshire in 1991 when i met the singer/guitarist Mel (Maple Bee to you) at college there. we toured our asses off in 1992 and made this split single with Homage Freaks, then a 12" before splitting up at the start of 93...Mel went on to form Zu (which i was in for a couple of gigs), then go solo, then do a load of other stuff. i joined a band called müng, then formed Ligament with Ray (who i met when he was doing sound for Tabitha Zu) and Timmy Chimp...sure you can figure out the rest...
