The best day ever!!! 💗💗💗 I got to go to @kelsarmie’s book tour at her store haricot vert!!! I loved meeting her, meeting amazing people at the keychain workshop, making a cute keychain for my purse, getting my favorite mini print, having matcha, shopping, and overall being in awe of all the creativity! ✨💖

Between group sessions, workshops, and shared meals, we intentionally build in downtime to recharge. Some people spend it walking the trails, journaling, or diving into solo projects.

This time, a few musicians in the cohort ended up collaborating on a song together. Even @missmerli jumped in with the lyrics 📝!

Every cohort has its own chemistry. Put a group of creatives together, give them a little breathing room, and you never know what will emerge. 🌳 🎶 💫

aNAK (Awaken in Nature, Artistry & Kinship) is a four-day retreat for creatives across disciplines designed to reconnect the parts of ourselves that everyday life can so easily pull apart - through time in nature, artistic exploration, movement, and community.

Some words about my cover of "Someday We'll All Be Free" by the great Donny Hathaway..

This song was originally recorded and released in 1973 by Hathaway and co-written with Edward Howard, who was not only a colleague, but a friend to the artist.

I’ve always been touched by the masculine vulnerability in this song. Men aren’t always allowed to be outwardly tender, and this song is filled with such transparent hope and sincerity, which I’ve always admired and had a desire to augment. To be fair, it has been covered many times before. But for my spin, I wanted to present a feminine offering to masculine vulnerability. I wanted to hold space for, and to celebrate, male tenderness from a feminine perspective, which I aimed to capture from orchestration to visual. I also just think it's beautiful and inspiring text is meaningful for all.

I hope you enjoy. Big shoutout also to @marcosvmusic for a gorgeous bass solo in this piece, and of course @eye.julia for her incredible eye. Link to full video in bio! 💫

So, this one is especially for the ladies. I got unexpectedly emotional recently explaining the main question I wanted to ask through my music, which was this: what happens when a woman stops trying to be what she is “supposed” to be, and just admits who she IS? Like honestly, what happens?

..and then there’s the myriad of ways I wanted to explore that by writing and singing about femininity, hope, love, ambition, sacrifice, strength, drive, affection, sensuality, self-doubt, social inequality.. ALL of it.

So for this song—which is called “My Day, Pt. I”—I ended up writing a little prayer about all of the things I personally hoped for, and musically wanted to hear.

Here are some lyrics:

“I seen a day, strong
I’m telling you
my day is coming
my days ain’t few
But I—
I tell my truth
I seen my day coming”

Shoutout also to @csmusic1 for some killing trumpet counterpoint. I loved it then sir, and I love it still!

One of the aspects I have most enjoyed throughout the creation of this project has been finding the possibilities for wordplay and poetry within each song. It's a special thrill to convey a feeling musically, and also through the written word. So, beginning tomorrow and over the next few weeks, I am especially excited to share the thoughts that have been in my heart for years with a series of lyric videos from #LouderThenLP.

Each cinematic mood was developed with the incomparable @eye.julia. I hope that in each, you might be able to bite just a little more deeply into each sonic world.
