80 days. Over 25 events. 15,000 shutter clicks. Thousands of new and familiar faces.

A social experiment. Free pictures. Community. Exhaustion. Sleepless nights. And an immense sense of gratitude.

I gave it my all for the community. I poured everything I had into this experience, and while I don’t know what the future holds, I’m incredibly thankful for the summer I got to share with people I love and for every challenge that came with it.

This exhibition at @novelrino Gallery 190 was more than photographs on walls. It was a reflection of my love for photography, people, places, and the moments that connect us.

Thank you to everyone who walked through those doors, stood in front of my camera, showed up to an event, shared the space, supported an idea, or simply spent time with me.

These days it’s easy to tell who shows up for you and who doesn’t , Because there will always be pictures to prove it !!! Thankful for my community. My friends and family. Thanks @juliandonaldson for the opportunity to show my works and for capturing the moments, And everyone that showed up with smiles and love. I need that fuel. There is more where this came from. 10 years of designing and painting have taught me so much about myself. Taking that leap, moving away from my family, friends, and culture to a place I knew nothing about, just dancing with a dream.

Grateful for all the people, lessons, challenges, and projects that found me along the way.

10 years later, the dream is still grooving. Closed mouths are never fed.

We are all a world unto ourselves. Ever growing and evolving.

Venus de Melanin is a part of the series “Taking Up Space”, which reimagines classical Greek and Renaissance-inspired sculptures by centering people of color as the subjects, challenging the traditional dominance of whiteness in historical art. Each piece is a collaboration with its muse, celebrating their identity, resilience, and cultural richness.

The sculptures were created through life casting, with each muse’s form captured in latex before being transformed into the final artwork. Incorporating live moss into the sculptures symbolizes themes of rebirth and regeneration, further grounding the work in the cycles of life and growth. These figures reclaim space and transform it, inviting viewers to reflect on representation, history, and the evolving narratives of beauty and power.
