OUTTA HACK RECAP 08
April 2023

I don’t remember the exact date, but earlier this year, 80s NC punk scene pioneer Rawb Stewart - who wore a band-aid on his nose daily without fail - passed away.

So in May, his close friends including @misspennycandy and @themidge17 set up “The Band Aid Knows” Project, celebrating Rawb’s life. A metal band-aid replica was sent around the country so that all of us could wear it Rawb-style, take a selfie, and share our pics for a collected video later.

Admittedly Rawb and I weren’t close friends, but to me he was one of the more welcoming people in the scene, and I always appreciated that. And of course his smart, sharp, confrontational sense of humor influences me to this day.

Fond memory: at a Raleigh house party around 1987, Rawb put a bass in my hands and taught me "Jean Jeanie" on the spot so I could play it with him. I barely knew him or the song, but I'm glad to have known both.

RIP Rawb.

Thank you for your healing vibe flowers. Marmals is home after having a terrible gash cut in his mouth from an attack of another cat who is not hurt at all. He had to have surgery and is recovering as an indoor cat. He found us last May, came back neutered and ear clipped and proceeded to tame himself by becoming a porch hobbit. A once feral cat was described by @bullcityvethospital as “a giant marshmallow”. Thanks to all who cared and helped🧡🧡🧡

This is Bonnie. She has been selling out of print and used cookbooks for 22 years. She closes at 7, but when she heard my squeal of delight at finding the most perfect gift, she offered to let me stay as long as I cared to. This is why small business. She cut 3 pieces of wrapping paper before she decided it was the right one. I am just shy of 12 years in this shopkeep situation and I have so much to learn, but this trip to the big city reminds me how lucky I feel to follow in the footsteps of the ladies like Bonnie. #thankyoubonnie #thegiftwrapisperfect #smallbusinessismybusiness #i❤️ny
