Amidst the sea of black and denim one figure towers above the District crowd: a dude in an inflatable pig costume. I love metal shows. Things kick off promptly at 8pm and the strobes begin their unrelenting assault. Great production from Slam Dank x @FoulPlay_presents. The Fallen Prophets open the night in a blur of hair and sweat. Porky Pig leads the charge in the moshpit. During the changeover, I discover he owns 2 other suits (a bull and Santa Claus). Mithras Crowned double down on the intensity and atmospherics. Things are getting serious. People are taking selfies with Porky. He might be quietly stealing the show. He's also starting to deflate a little. American legends @Massacre_band_official greet the crowd with maniacal laughter. They promise old school death metal, and they deliver: with buckets of charisma and hair for days. Metal is pretty niche but the fans are dedicated; the scene may be small but it's alive and head banging.
